Franklin Graham's Statement on Colorado Shooting

"It's natural to ask why," says President and CEO of BGEA

"My prayer is that people who have suffered at the hand of evil will turn their hearts to God."

Terror has once again struck the heart of the nation as we hear reports about the largest mass shooting in American history that took place on July 20 as moviegoers filled a theater to watch the screening of “The Dark Knight Rises.”

It is natural to ask, Why? How could someone carry out such evil? The Bible tells us: "The hearts of the sons of men are full of evil; madness is in their hearts while they live" (Ecclesiastes 9:3, NKJV).

We seldom question why the very thing that entertains us is often the very thing that assaults us. A dark night did arise in Aurora, Colorado, and in the midst of this horror, my prayer is that people who have suffered at the hand of evil will turn their hearts to God and His Son, Jesus Christ, for comfort and truth; for He is the only One who can bring peace, healing, and hope in the midst of oppression and despair.
