106.9 the Light Listeners Support 1,815 Families During Haiti Relief Effort
Radio station works with Samaritan’s Purse to raise more than $270,000
Listeners of Christian radio station 106.9 the Light pledged $272,250 during an on-air pledge drive on Tuesday, February 2 to support ongoing ministry in Haiti being conducted by Christian international relief agency Samaritan’s Purse. The organization has been in Haiti since directly after the destructive January 12 earthquake. The goal was to help meet the physical and spiritual needs of the hurting people affected by the natural disaster. Listeners responded to the fund drive by meeting the immediate needs of 1,815 Haitian families. Each gift of $150 will provide a family of six with temporary shelter, clean water, a medical supply kit, and emergency supplies (blankets, hygiene kits, etc.). “Last Tuesday’s response from listeners ranks among the biggest outpourings to any mission project 106.9 the Light has ever presented,” stated Jim Kirkland, executive director of the radio station. “And in these times when money is tight, some listeners had to make sacrifices to provide for Haitian families. Every bit of the credit belongs to God.” Kirkland added, “In the days just after the earthquake, we felt God calling us away from the normal game plan to connect listeners to an opportunity that would quickly help Haitians. And when one thinks of international relief work done in Christ’s name, Samaritan’s Purse is first-in-mind.” To learn more about what Samaritan's Purse is doing today for the victims of the earthquake in Haiti, visit www.samaritanspurse.com.
