How to Love

October 8, 2013

These things I command you, that ye love one another.
–John 15:17

How are we to love? We are to love as God loves us . . . we are to show acceptance and appreciation . . . [to] accept each other as God accepts us. Too many parents refuse to accept and appreciate their children for what they are. That is why a million American children ran away from home last year. A team of Yale researchers has concluded that the majority of these runaways were attempting to escape an unhappy family situation. They yearned to be appreciated.

The causes of delinquency, we are told, are broken homes, poverty, lack of recreational facilities, poor physical health, racism, working mothers, and so on . . . The experts never seem to mention the lack of love, or the lack of faith in God. Yet these are the two most important elements for an adolescent’s successful maturity.

How long has it been since you praised your children instead of criticizing them? David prayed for Solomon and daily praised him, and we are to praise our children daily. Praise your wife. I have found that praise goes a lot further than criticism. Everybody needs to be appreciated.

Prayer for the day

It is so easy to criticize those close to me; but Lord, give me Your unreserved love so that they may know how deeply I appreciate them.

We want to follow You, the Lord. Please pour out Your unchangeable love in our withered hearts.

We always praised and loved our children over the years. Even though we saw some things we didn't agree with, we still loved them for doing their best. This is what our parents taught us. Plus we made sure they knew about God through church.

Encourage good conduct regularly . This promotes more good conduct . Try and be patient and lovingly correct poor, youthful choices. How quickly we adults forget the poor choices we made just a few years ago .

Children suffer so much hurt when their divorced parents continue to battle each other. Wake up parents and see who is getting wounded in the crossfire of your battles! Ask God to open the eyed of your hearts!

As believers in Jesus it is our responsibility to see our children come to know Jesus. This can only be done through love, prayer and how we live. They must see Jesus in acition in our lives. See Proverbs 22:6.

This is one area I try to be very careful. I try to appreciate people for who they ARE and not for What they HAVE. I only look unto God for my resources.

I pray that God will give my son direction in his life to make right choices and treat others with kindness and appreciation, show respect and get away from his addiction to drugs and alcohol. Only the divine power of God can do this. Thank you.

Children are a very special blessing from God. Like you, they have individual personalities. Lovingly correct them when they are wrong but don't miss an opportunity to praise and encourage them when they do what is right. This affirmation from a loving parent is essential if they are to grow up and become all that you want them to be.

I wish a spirit-filled day to Jewish believers fasting today for Yom Kippur, the day of atonement. Since I became "born again" December 10, 2006, I have never ceased repenting nor praying daily in communion with thanksgiving because of all that God did through Jesus for me, for us and for this messy, too often evil world. Jesus brings God's love to this planet. He supports his people's every step, welcoming the prodigal ad infinidum. Perhaps all of creation lives in His heart, His love center and our sins pain Him like our body illness and disease pain us. God is so magnanimous, that even in our bad behavior He saves us by sacrficing His only son in ransom for me and you.

Sharon says 10.8.2011, 00:56 a.m.

Relationships are very important to God. Therefore, we must ensure that we show the love of God to all, including our families.
