We Can't Out-Give God

December 29, 2013

A tenth of the produce of the land . . . is the Lord’s.
–Leviticus 27:30 (TLB)

We are to be stewards of our money. When it is invested and shared for the glory of God, it can be a boon and a blessing. I know a businessman in Detroit, Michigan, who made a promise to God that he would tithe his entire income to the work of the Lord. He said his business had tripled, and that God had more than fulfilled His end of the bargain.

Some time ago I heard from a laborer in the San Joaquin Valley of California who said that he and his wife agreed to give one tenth of their income to the Lord. At the time they made their decision, he was able to get work only about seven months of the year. Now he says he has steady work, and is earning nearly twice what he was before. You cannot get around it; the Scripture promises material and spiritual benefits to the man who gives to God.

You cannot out-give God. I challenge you to try it and see.

Prayer for the day

Forgive me, Lord, for the times I have wanted to keep that which is rightfully Yours.

Whether you have a lot to give or very little .......to the Lord, give it gladly, with a thankful heart. Blessings will result.

I'm so sorry LORD, as a human being, the mistakes, that I have done, and for the times, I have wanted to keep, that which is belong to You. According to the riches of Your Grace, I received the forgiveness of sins, Thank You...., my Savior...., Amen!

Who is God like unto Thee, that pardons iniquity, and passes by the transgression of the remnant of His heritage? You retain not Your anger for ever, because You delight in mercy, You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea. Amen!

I posted my "thank you" comment before I was able to see all of the posts yet. So, thank you to Delores and Gerry as well and to everyone else who is praying for my husband and me! It's a blessing in and of itself to know that so many people care. God bless you all! Gerry - It's interesting; I often think about that verse and it crossed my mind again as I was writing my initial comment for prayer. Thank you. :)

Thank you Wilma and Tuesdae for your encouraging words. And Tuesdae, your last sentence stuck in my mind and I found especially encouraging: "He delivers us not based on what we do, but based on Who He is...". Thank you for that! :)

God loves a cheerful giver. He is more concerned about how you give rather than how much you give. So when you give do it gladly. Also don't forget to thank him for providing you with the resources in the first place.

Alena, I will say a prayer for you and your husband. I have been there also and God has always brought me though. Often in a way I never would have thought of! Keep trusting..praying and fasting. He does and will provide!

Aena, I will be praying for you. Years ago I was in the same situation. My husband lost his job after 13 years. He was unemployed for a year. During that time I became pregnant with our second child. He finally found a job, but it was half of what he made on the last job and he hated it. Long story short, God brought us through it. We almost foreclosed on our home, but God was so faithful that He opened doors for us, and we are still in our home. I trusted God and refused to get weary. Satan tried to make me doubt, but I knew that God heard my prayers. He hears yours too. He loves you and He will "...supply all your need according to His riches in glory.."(Phil. 4:19) Job's situation got worse before it got better. He delivers us not based on what we do, but based on Who He is...

I know that this Biblical concept is true, however, right now it is difficult to see. My husband lost his job a little over a year ago and has been unable to find work. Praise God that we are able to still receive unemployment benefits. We both love the Lord and tithe off of our income (each and every paycheck and benefit check) and it seems as though our financial situation just keeps getting worse. It is very depressing for both of us and sometimes it's hard not to wonder when God’s promise is going to “kick-in”. I don’t mean to sound ungrateful; I know there are many families much worse off than us. It’s just frustrating when you do what you’re supposed to and things don’t seem to get better – in fact, they seem to get worse. Please pray for us if you would. Thank you and God bless.

It has been proven over and over - you cannot outgive God!

How often we have considered and, worst of all, used God's gifts to us for personal gain only. Shame on us!
