What's in a Gift?

December 23, 2013

For unto us a child is born . . . and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
–Isaiah 9:6

To Christians the joy of Christmas is not limited to His birth. It is built even more on the triumph of His death and resurrection—that gave meaning to His birth. The mysterious spirit of generosity which possesses us at Christmas is the afterglow of Calvary. The fact of the cross illuminates this day and hallows it. As we exchange our gifts, let us remember that they are symbolic of the unspeakable gift of God’s love.

I do not believe that Christians should be giving expensive gifts to each other. We should quietly give simple little gifts that are expressions of our love and devotion to the recipients. These gifts become symbolic of the gift of God’s love. How much money could be saved and invested in the Kingdom of God by thousands of Christian families every year if the true meaning of Christmas was observed.

Prayer for the day

Loving God, my heavenly Father, in Your gift of Jesus I see Your immeasurable love reaching out to all mankind. How I praise You and adore You!

What an amazing, life altering , incomparable gift, our incredible Heavenly Father gave to us, with the birth of his Perfect Son and our Holy Savior, Jesus Christ. Let all mankind celebrate and rejoice as we remember his birth. Thank you Lord.

Yes, special blessings (Ps 103) on Jesse and his family this Christmas. We can trust in Ps 103:19. Our God is in His Heaven and He rules over all, He does not just dabble in the affairs of men, He is sovereign (including our lives).

Tim says 12.23.2011, 06:58 a.m.

Lord Jesus we pray that you will grant Jesse a miracle this Christmas. May your love, joy and peace miraculously cover their family and may the prayers of your children cover them and give hope. May Jesse and his family cling to you and your cross.

Christmas is a day of spending time with Family and giving gifts, but it is believed that many people miss the true meaning of this glorious day. I pray that people will learn the true meaning of December 25 and celebrate the gift of GOD, Amen!!!

Father God, thank you for looking beyond our faults and seeing our needs that you gave us the greatest gift of all Jesus Christ, who show us the gift of LOVE!

Bob says 12.23.2010, 05:00 a.m.

I have been telling my wife this for years. Stop spending so much money! Okay I am somewhat joking here, but let us remember what Christmas is really about. I am grateful for a true loving God and the sacrifice that was made at the cross. I pray that all of you have a Merry Christmas and a joyous New Year.

Gerry says 12.23.2010, 03:09 a.m.

Sadly, Christmas has turned into a commercial extravaganza. Stores are happy to take our money while at the same time some are reluctant to even say Merry Christmas. Rather they choose to be politically correct and say Happy Holidays. Lord please help us return our focus on the celebration of the birth of your Holy Son and our Saviour, Jesus Christ. He will always be the real reason for the season.

Adebisi says 12.23.2010, 01:37 a.m.

Even the unbelievers celebrate Christmas, Dec 25 is noted by the whole world for that purpose.

Chudi says 12.22.2010, 10:37 p.m.

Lord Jesus, thank You for loving me and for coming into this world even though i am a sinner. I am so happy today because i am saved by Your grace. Amen.

Darrell says 12.22.2010, 1:25 p.m.

Just as we are to forgive people for trespasses against us we should share our blessings with the needy. God gave us his Son as a gift so we should share.

Mike says 12.21.2010, 1:13 p.m.

Thank you God for giving us the grandest gift--Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!
