Neglect of Soul

December 21, 2013

“Blessed is the man who reveres God, but the man who doesn’t care is headed for serious trouble.”
–Proverbs 28:14 (TLB)

All Christians believe in God, but many Christians have little time for God. They are too busy with everyday affairs to be taken up with Bible reading, prayer, and being thoughtful to their fellowmen. Many of them have lost the spirit of a zealous discipleship. If you ask them if they are Christians, they would probably answer, “I think so,” or, “I hope so.” They may go to church at Easter and Christmas and on other special occasions, but otherwise they have little time for God. They have crowded God out of their lives.

The Bible warns against neglect of your soul. It is possible to harden your heart and shrivel your soul, until you lose your appetite for the things of God. This hunger, then, that you should have is a desire to be always right with God. It is a consciousness that all searching for peace of heart, except in Him, is in vain.

Prayer for the day

I hunger today to know more of You, Lord.

God is part of our daily lives. We pray, read and even listen to sermons online. We give our children and grand children the positive outlooks and values that Christ has taught us. Yes, God is in our daily lives.

Don't forget God. He has not forgotten you. If he seems distant, try moving closer by making a genuine effort to spent quiet time with him each day. Then be patient and watch what happens.

Gerry says 12.21.2011, 05:24 a.m.

Just as neglecting your physical health can lead to illness. Even more importantly, neglecting your spiritual health can lead to a hopeless, stressed out, lonely, existence with nowhere to turn or no one to help during life's many disasters.

Annie says 12.19.2011, 12:15 a.m.

Take my life LORD, and, let Your life flow into my life. I want to know You, and the power of Your resurrection, and the fellowship of Your sufferings, being made conformable unto You death......, In Jesus name I pray, Amen!

Juan says 12.21.2010, 10:12 p.m.

Spendng quiet time with our father is the most important thing than anything else in our daily life. Therfore be in touch in prayer, reading Gods word and hear the Fathers voice is one of the greatest things we should do everyday as a christian. So I would encourage all who proclaim him/her self as a christian to remember that live is not just about talk the talk but walk the walk.

Sarah says 12.21.2010, 9:22 p.m.

I hunger today to know more of You, Lord. I pray for this a lot. This time of year it's easy to get caught up in shopping instead of the reason. I will make sure to make time for you Lord, even in this crazy time in our lives.

Mike says 12.21.2010, 1:06 p.m.

Lord, I love You and want to please You. May the holy spirit work in my heart to keep focused on learning ways to deepen my faith and trust in You. I pray that I continue to be drawn to You and that others may experience Your loving ways.

Brian says 12.21.2010, 08:54 a.m.

Lord, I pray that You keep my heart and mind hungry for You. Only You know all the things that try to take my focus off You.

Jessica says 12.21.2010, 08:49 a.m.

We should all abide by this. Too many times people neglect their soul. May we pray for others and ourselves to always live right for God.

Gerry says 12.21.2010, 08:14 a.m.

Spending quiet time with our Heavenly Father each day should be a top priority in every Christians life. If it means getting up a bit earlier before heading out ......that is a very small sacrifice, that can go a long way in preparing you for whatever lies ahead each day. Most people would never go through a whole day without remembering to eat food, so I would encourage all who love the Lord to remember their daily spiritual food as well. It is essential if you desire to stay spiritually fit.
