Billy Graham's Daily Devotion

A life lived for Christ

December 15, 2013

Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers . . .
–1 Timothy 4:12

Lord Chesterton once said, “I believe in bedside repentance, but I do not want to depend upon it.” During a serious illness a person’s mind does not function normally. Getting right with God is something one should do in the bloom of health. However, as far as the Lord is concerned, “His ear is not heavy that He cannot hear, nor His arm shortened that He cannot save.” He loves us equally, in sickness or in health; while we are living, or while we are dying. In my experience, I have not known of too many people who found Christ on their deathbed. When we come to Christ in our youth, a life is saved. When we come in old age, a soul is salvaged and life eternal is assured; but the opportunity to live a life for Christ has been lost.

Prayer for the day

Lord God, burden my heart to reach out to the young persons starting their adventure in life—and the old persons dreading the end of their journey. Let me tell them the message of Your saving love.

I pray tonight for my Aunt Marylin who will go to meet our Lord soon. I pray for the peace of the Holy Spirit to dwell in her heart, and also in the hearts of those immediately around her. May Christ receive her into his loving arms.

Yes, precious LORD, no matter the evils we suffer because of others, cause our hearts to continue in Your love for others, unto obedience in Christ. Amen

This Devotion comes at a time when the young and old are facing various challenges brought by the devil. I pray that our God gives us strength to stand firm in this trial period as we wait for his second coming.

Some people do not get saved until late in life and regret that their years of being able to serve the Lord on earth may be brief. Better late than never........but why wait. Enjoy every moment you can in life, as a member of the family of God.

My Savior, Your life is a good example to each young person. Only 33 years of age, You did the greatest sacrifice. You are not asking for our lives, but surrender. Holy Spirit, Bring every young person closer to Jesus, in Jesus name I pray, Amen!

This devotional comes in perfect timing as I begin Hospice volunteer training tomorrow. May this message be used for those who need to hear it. Thank you, Jesus for loving us so much young or old, from the beginning to the end!

I suspect many have died lost having lived a carefree , worldly life . Many thought they would consider accepting Christ when they were old. One only has to look at the obituary in any newspaper to see that sudden accidents occur at any age without warning . My sincere prayer is that all the unsaved would accept Christ as their personal Saviour , ASAP, because eternity is a long time .
