Billy Graham's Daily Devotion

The Broken Home

December 1, 2013

“There is sin in their homes, and they are polluted to the depths of their souls. But I will call upon the Lord to save me—and he will.”
–Psalm 55:15,16 (TLB)

The broken home has become the number one social problem of America, and could ultimately lead to the destruction of our civilization. Since the basic unit of any society is the home, when the home begins to break, the society is on the way to disintegration. It is a threat to the American way of life. It does not make screaming headlines; but, like termites, it is eating away at the heart and core of the American structure.

It is high time that our so-called experts on marriage, the family, and the home turn to the Bible. We have read newspaper columns and listened to counselors on the radio; psychiatrists have had a land-office business. In it all, the One who performed the first marriage in the Garden of Eden and instituted the union between man and wife has been left out.

Prayer for the day

I pray, Lord, for the homes in this beloved country. Without Your love and wisdom guiding us, our society will crumble.

I am one of those from a broken marriage and had the foundation been placed with Jesus Christ, the outcome would have been with so much different and the blessings God had in store for us thru that marriage would far outweigh the heartache and broken pieces we have had . God's way is the only way to live, and live forever.

Mr Graham, we are praying for you and your family. What a blessing you and your ministry are to so many people. We love you and can't wait to visit the library this Christmas season. And your devotion is once again dead on! We just have to continue to pray for our nation.

Mr. Graham...I am praying for a speedy recovery from your pneumonia...I thank you for this devotional time every day...I'm a Christian, and I am not ashamed to say that marriage is a union between a man and a woman...Today's society with its political correctness has left out God in all areas, especially in the home. May God bless America and may god bless you and your ministry.

I'm afraid broken homes have become the national pastime even in the church.

Some experts claim that the Christian divorce rate is as high or edging higher than that of non- Christians. This is a very sad statistic indeed and indicative of our urgent need to get back to the basics of who we are suppose to be in the Lord. Disposable marriages are not what God's Holy Word promotes. There are specific situations as outlined in scripture were it is permitted. However, by "world standards" it has become socially acceptable. We are numb and complacent to it now, unfortunately. The Good News is God loves the sinner but not the sin and its not too late to make a fresh start.

I agree so much Dr Graham, we can turn to all these experts in marriage, talk show host and what have you. Without Almighty God we can do nothing. Thanks for the inspiration BGEA!

I agree 100 with what Dr. Graham says here. Sadly, however, the divorce rate for Christians is the same as for the general population.

First, I totally agree. The family is the most important institution in any society. Even on a purely secular level, many other countries in the world recognize this fact of the dire importance of family, and are centered around the family. Though some laugh and balk at many 'traditional' societies, I say, they are way more in the right than a very liberal, out of control society that is so "modern" it has twisted and in some cases destroyed the meaning of the most important unit: the family. Anyway, more importantly than what I have to say any day of the week, is the Word of God which as Billy Graham has taught us here in this lesson, clearly spells out that the Lord instituted marriage and the family, and his Word should be consulted in all matters related. On another note, I love you Billy Graham. You brought me to Jesus and I thank the Lord for you every day. God bless you, your family, and your ministry. Thank you for honoring the calling of our Heavenly Father and leading countless millions to the kingdom of God. May the Lord bless you and your family richly and abundantly today and always.

Sheree says 12.1.2010, 10:35 a.m.

Without the Lord there is no hope. He is our Creator, our great physician, our comforter, He is the Great Almighty, He is our all...

Anthony says 12.1.2010, 09:19 a.m.

Delores says 12.1.2010, 08:20 a.m.

I agree totally with you, Rev. Graham.

Gerry says 12.1.2010, 06:57 a.m.

Any family that isn't praying together has very little, to no hope, of staying together. Their foundation is built on sand and storms will surely come. The only solution is found in Jesus Christ "the Rock".

Mark says 12.1.2010, 06:49 a.m.

One of the greatest joy that you can experience in life is to put your house in order. No longer two but one.
