The Abundant Life

November 23, 2013

He that eateth, eateth to the Lord; for he giveth God thanks . . .
–Romans 14:6

Do you think that God would have bothered to send His Son to the world, if man had been able to face life and eternity alone? Christ’s coming to the world proved that God was not happy with man’s unhappiness. He sent Him not only that we might have eternal life but that we might have life here and now, and that we might have it more abundantly—Life with a capital L!

Jesus’ teaching was unique and different. He took religion out of the theoretical category and placed it in the practical. He spoke with authority! He spoke with finality! He spoke as though He knew . . . and He did! His was not the soft empty conjecture of the philosopher, who professes to search for truth—but readily admits he has never found it. It was more the confident voice of the mathematician who gives his answers unhesitatingly, because the proof of the answers can be found within the problem.

Prayer for the day

Lord God, I know that I am completely dependent upon You. Thank You for daily providing all that my body needs

it is the basic thing where we have to begin with our grateful hearts. without Him we can't even breathe even for a moment. Lord forgive me for all the moments when i forgot to give thanks for your good things, praise thee Lord.

It is good to praise thy Lord.

I like what one of readers said, "Living victoriously can only be achieved when we have a thankful heart." I am eternally grateful for every breath I take and I agree with many of the comments. Perhaps seeing a christian giving thanks before eating is not the only bit of God they may see. "Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house." - Matthew 5:15

Thanks be to our God for all He provides. His life in us each and His breath. Call on the Name of the Lord Jesus. Amen.

Holy God, Million Thanks, all Your goodness in my life and my family. All I can say, is not enough to describe You, all I can preach for the rest of my life, will not be enough to describe You. The Psalm writer was right, You are beautiful beyond description. And daily You forgive us, and daily You are patient with us, continually watching over us, You know us better than we know our selves. My Jesus, I will serve You all my days. Thank You LORD, Your obedient servant Rev. Billy Graham, his family and his ministry. Million Thanks!!!

Thank you God for every thing you give me and my family each and every day.

Sylvia says 11.23.2011, 07:49 a.m.

These days Christmas is so commercialized that Thanksgiving is barely recognized. We should thank God for everything that we have. I bow my head at resturants and I am very proud to do so. People are forgetting to include God in their lives and when the roll is called in Heaven, God will forget them. The Bible says if you do not know me on earth, I will not know you in heaven.

Serway says 11.23.2011, 07:26 a.m.

What else can we do to our good Lord except thanks giving? His Love is unthinkable.

Tammy says 11.23.2011, 06:56 a.m.

The enemy loves it when we are quiet. We do not reach our potential if we do not speak up for His goodness. Years ago I heard a story from another Christian about her and her children in public singing grace and others joined in. It was beautiful music to Him who inhabits our praises.

Gerry says 11.23.2011, 06:38 a.m.

If your feeling that your efforts to thank God for all his blessings, fall short, then ask the Holy Spirit to intercede for you.

Tim says 11.23.2011, 06:28 a.m.

Even when times are hard we must give thanks to God. Without Him we could not live, move, or have our being. It is only by the grace of God that we have breath to live another second. Sometimes it feels like God is far off, but He is not. As long as we are alive he is close enough to comfort, forgive and provide if we earnestly accept Him as our Lord and Savior.

I thank you Lord for providing my daily bread ...and whatsoever ye do in Word or deed,do all in the nameOf the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.(col3:17) Amen ...

Thanksgiving Day is a day nobody should forget to be thankful for so many blessings received. Let us pray and be thankful to our Almighty Father for blessing America. God bless Pastor Graham and his ministry.ds

"...the words of Jesus that say we should not pray to be seen by men like the pharisees do?"Notice the key phrases in this statement. Are you praying to be seen of others? If so, then you are praying amiss. We should be praying to be heard of God. Don't be ashamed to pray in public. We must let our light shine that others may come to know Him.

grandma says 11.23.2010, 1:37 p.m.

Whether in the privacy of our home or in public, as we pray to give Thanks to Jesus for providing our meal, we are not aware of anyone else. We are aware of only of our Prayer and the humbling in our hearts before the Provider.

Pierre says 11.23.2010, 10:18 a.m.

How do we balance the act of praying before a meal in public with the words of Jesus that says we should not pray to be seen by men like the pharisees do? At home we always pray at meal time and when eating out we want to do the same, however I always feel the "haunting" of those words. I don't pray to be seen, however it is hard to pray before meals at an restaurant without being seen unless you do it without bowing your head and the moment of pause to pray. Is it the "condemnation" of the devil that says it is just religion to pray before a meal in public or how should we view this?

iaw says 11.23.2010, 09:22 a.m.

I say most of the time, whenever me, my daughter 16 years old and my twin boys 13 years old go out to eat we say a prayer. People would look at us mostly when we are at the mall. pbc

John Hnery says 11.23.2010, 08:30 a.m.

Thanksgiving is recognition of a debt that cannot be paid and Praise God everyday. Psalm 150 Amen

Bob says 11.23.2010, 08:21 a.m.

My Lord, I'm so thankful for Your gift of salvation through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen!

Karen says 11.23.2010, 08:00 a.m.

When my family eats out or when we have guests in our home, we always say grace. I'd have to say that when others see our thanksgiving they usually look at us like, "Good for you for doing so!" We've frequently noticed waiters or waitresses bowing their heads silently too. We're Christians! We have much to be thankful for -- we need to display our love and joy in the Lord. May we all have a blessed Thanksgiving!

Jeff says 11.23.2010, 07:33 a.m.

I always say a prayer before eating but to be honest I am always a bit self conscious when I'm at a restaurant. This is a very encouraging word for me. Thanks and may God bless you today.

Gerry says 11.23.2010, 06:56 a.m.

Holy Spirit filled, sincere thanks, to the Lord is sweet music to his ears.

Lois says 11.23.2010, 04:24 a.m.

May we all have thankful hearts, everyday for all that God is and all he has and is doing for us daily, even when we don't see it, but by faith acept it.

John says 11.23.2010, 03:51 a.m.

Living victoriously can only be achieved when we have a thankful heart. Thank you for reminding us to be thankful once again Mr. Graham. I thank God for you and your ministry. Gbu

We can never be thankful enough. Yet, don't stop trying.
