Loneliness

October 16, 2013

My heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God.
–Psalm 84:2

Loneliness is one of the greatest problems people face today. It is a leading cause of suicide—that is now the third greatest killer of students in the United States. People feel various kinds of loneliness. One of the most common is the loneliness of solitude. Or there is the loneliness of suffering. Many people experience loneliness in society, or there is the loneliness of sorrow, guilt, and judgment.

All of us feel at times a loneliness for God. Someone has called it cosmic loneliness. We don’t know what it is. It makes us restless. You see, man was made for God; and without God, he is lonely. But Jesus is knocking at the door of our heart, saying, “I want to come in. Let me in.” He doesn’t push His way through that door. We have to open it and invite Him in; when we do, He comes in to live forever and we are never lonely again.

Prayer for the day

Lord Jesus, I remember the agony of my days without You. Lead me to the lonely people who need to experience the joy of Your companionship, too.

Jesus said, "I will never leave or forsake you".Some times we want Jesus with us and some times we don't want Him to see what we do but Jesus is always there. Be thankful for His everlasting presence and grace.

If you are a Believer and feel lonely, call out to the Holy Spirit to help redirect your heart, mind and soul. He will help.

Billy Graham, you are so right. Lonliness is a problem for many but Jesus does fill that void. I have spent the last several years getting free from an occult that has been trying to run me off on my call of the Lord which is to take revival to the church. All I have had is the Lord to turn to in these years of being isolated from my family and friends, but the Lord is so faithful and I walk and talk with Him every step of the way. Thank you for sharing this devotion.

Yes. you're true sir, and moreover, a life without Christ is full of crisis! Believe in Jesus today and your life shall be free of crisis and loneliness.

The quote is from Revelation and Jesus is speaking to *believers*. How often I should remember this.

Derek Ostuni says 10.16.2011, 09:35 a.m.

I n my experience loneliness occurs when we move away from the word of God which is comforting and encouraging filled with promise and hope. I believe when we share the word we feel a connection with others and a like minded state which can produce friendship, soul like qualities ,and fellowship which is greatly needed in anyone's life which can go missing when we partake in other attitudes. Through the word, all good things are added to the spirit including completeness and fullness and joy. Separatism is the main problem i think that we are dealing with today, believing we are different or unworthy of his love. It is each of our responsibilities to carry the message of hope and to help reveal these mysteries to our family in Christ Jesus. It should be our willingness to teach and to be taught according to the light burden Jesus wants us to carry. Not the heavy one.

Faith says 10.16.2011, 07:56 a.m.

I want to feel the lord Jesus in My heart I want his strength I want to trust and love Jesus i want my fears to become his concerns to be able to feel joy because I know the lord will take care of me how do I do this? I am a Christian but just can't find that peace in my heart

Marty says 10.16.2011, 07:13 a.m.

I remember the days before I knew Jesus. The pain of loneliness was so great I used alcohol and pornography to distract myself from that loneliness. Since I accepted the Lord's invitation into relationship, He has been a constant companion as He saved me from my addictions and leads me through life. I love Jesus because; Who am I to deserve all that He has done for me? Just another sinner like you. Have a blessed day!
