The Real Source of Power

October 9, 2013

But seek ye first the kingdom of God . . .
–Matthew 6:33

A man or a woman who has been focusing all attention on financial gains, or business, or social prestige, or who has centered all his affection on some one person, experiences a devastating sense of loss when denied the thing that has given life its meaning. In these tragic moments, the individual recognizes how terribly and completely alone he is.

In that moment the Holy Spirit may cause the worldly bandages to fall from his eyes so that he sees clearly for the first time. He recognizes that God is the only source of real power, and the only enduring fountainhead of love and companionship.

Prayer for the day

From out of the depths, Lord, my eyes have seen that only You are unchanging, eternal love. Help me to put You first in everything I do.

When I was younger, I wanted to climb the ladder of success, not realizing that God should have been my success. Now, I look at life through God being on top and everything else comes last. God is better than money and work. He is what I see now.

Amen. Place our faith only upon God and embark in the life journey of peace, love and reconciliation that is in Christ.

There is only room for one at the top of "Life's list". People and things will ultimately disappoint. It is imperative that God be first and he will see that all else will fall into place.

Thank you for the message of today! It encourages me to put my trust and hope in Christ alone. He will never leave nor forsake me and He is more reliable than anything else in this world.

Thank you! I realize today that God is telling me to stop obsessing over one person, and to focus on Him instead. He has been trying to show me this for a while now, and your post opened my eyes to it. I need to get rid of my idol.

Lord Jesus let me put you first in my life so I will never be disappointed no matter what the situation may be. All things work together for good to those who love The Lord.

When you take the time to look back on your life, you realize how fleeting it is and how insignificant the things that most of us worry about really are. All God really wants from us is to love him back. I pray for God's blessing to help me accomplish that seemingly simple task that I continually mess up.

Holly says 10.9.2011, 6:45 p.m.

Thank you for your short, but to the point message. I need more focus on the Father not this world. Alot of times I see people who seem to have it all, except Jesus. I would rather have him than anything or anyone. Pray for me when I struggle to put things in correct order. Let me be more thankful and praise Him Daily.

Dena says 10.9.2011, 10:26 a.m.

Wow! Brief but to the point. A well known man in our town who experienced the first paragraph - ended his life. He did not get to the second paragraph that would have saved him. Do not fear losing money or friends, fear losing God.

Denise says 10.9.2011, 10:04 a.m.

Isn't it crazy how we can remain so focused on all that is really insignificant in our lives in relation to eternity?! Lord help me always put you first in my life, teach me to do this daily and allow me to waver when I no longer place you at the center of my life that I may quickly grasp onto your cross once again.

nichole tomlin says 10.9.2011, 07:48 a.m.

Amen..

Magnhild says 10.9.2011, 06:07 a.m.

It's only the Lord who can give us all we need for the dayli walking with Him. If we seek the kingdom of God first, He will give us all that we need for our daily walk with Him. He will give us of His eternal love, if we let Him.

Gerry says 10.9.2011, 04:39 a.m.

God does not want to be in second place. As a Child of God we must remember that everyone and everything, is secondary. First place in our heart must be reserved solely for God. There will be other very special people in our lives that is totally normal and as it should be but there is only room for one at the very top.
