Finite Beings - Infinite Desires

September 18, 2013

For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come.
–Hebrews 13:14

One of the basic desires of the soul is to live on and on. Self-preservation is the first law of nature. People may grow tired of aches and pains and the decrepitude of old age, but they do not grow tired of life itself. God has arranged to satisfy this yearning of the soul to live forever, and the desire to be free from pain and sickness and trouble. People are little creatures with big capacities, finite beings with infinite desires, deserving nothing but demanding all. God made people with this huge capacity and desire in order that He might come in and completely satisfy that desire. God made the human heart so big that only He can fill it. He made it demand so much that only He can supply that demand . . . Jesus Christ is the only one who holds the keys of death. In His death and resurrection He took the sting out of death, and now God offers eternal life to every person who puts his trust and faith in His Son Jesus Christ.

Prayer for the day

Lord Jesus, when I come to the end of this earthly life, You will be there to guide me to my heavenly home. Thank You, my loving Father.

This is something that has been bothering me lately. I'm not sure if I'm saved because of doubts and sinning, and I'm having a hard time coming back to Christ because of pride, selfishness, doubt, and some things going on in my life. Help!

Thank you, Mr. Graham, for saying this so well. Our hearts truly find no peace and hope until they find it in Jesus. What great news the Gospel is!

Born 1952 my parent's divorced at my 9-month's. Dad went to college to play baseball, football, Mom re-married at 3 yr's. , and moved from ILL. to California. I grew up playing ball in the street wondering what dad was like while he was teaching and coaching in an Illinois high school. I never dated, cared about my future except playing ball, being a coach, teacher. At 33 yr.'s I went to the Billy Graham Crusade in Anaheim for six night's and on the sixth night went forward to ask Jesus to be my Lord and Saviour. I still want to know my Dad who is now eighty-one and retired but is hard hearted still. Please pray for Robert. Thank's, David

I have said many time to my Brothers and Sisters in Christ that we are just passengers on this space ship we call earth for Heaven is our final home! Jesus is our only hope, for His peace and Joy is the only thing during this time on earth that really satisfies the hunger of our souls. May God richly bless BGEA.

Gerry says 9.18.2011, 07:16 a.m.

We are all appointed a time to die. Who knows the exact moment, but Christ. We can choose to fret and worry about it or we can choose to live our life, fully and joyfully. We have the assurance of positively knowing Christ is in full control and cares so much about us that he willingly died a horrid death at Calvary. I thank him daily for this huge sacrifiice and I look forward to thanking him face to face in Heaven.

mick says 9.16.2011, 12:56 a.m.

Paul turned out pretty good with his many afflictions--how 'bout us with our few?
