Be Meek - Be Happy

September 12, 2013

Blessed are the meek; for they shall inherit the earth.
–Matthew 5:5

In His characteristic way Jesus was saying something quite shocking and revolutionary to His listener with these words, “Happy are the meek.” He was saying something quite the opposite of our modern concept of the way to happiness. We say, “Happy are the clever, for they shall inherit the admiration of their friends”; “Happy are the aggressive, for they shall inherit a career”; “Happy are the rich, for they shall inherit a world of friends and a house full of modern gadgets.” Jesus did not say, “Be meek and you shall inherit the earth.” He, more than anyone else, knew that meekness was a gift of God, a result of rebirth. Jesus was not issuing a command in this Beatitude nor saying, “You ought to be meek, that is the way to live.” No! He was saying that if we want to find the secret of happiness, that if we want to enjoy living, then “meekness” is a basic key.

Prayer for the day

May I truly reflect Your meekness in my life, Lord.

God sees at the heart and therefore it should also be our standard of judging that we don't judge the visible actions but the unseen world according to the word of God.

I've learned that all the gadgets that I possess hasn't made me happy, but knowing the Lord is there for me. He is truly making me happier than all of the material goods I have.

Meekness is not weakness. Meekness is strength enough to hold yourself from pride and selfishness in the face of others. Loving without expecting any love in return is showing meekness.

The more we grow in the Lord and apply His Word to our life . The more meek we ought to become.

Thank you. Meekness is living out the image of God in us and helping others to live out that image as well. Meekness is a powerful spiritual characteristic that brings together courage and consideration. God bless you all.

Jesus, as our example was the epitome of meekness though He was all powerful. We need to never take our eyes off of our "example".

Meekness is one of the fruits of the spirit. if you conform to the world, there is no way you can be meek. Our creator loves the humble so there is no way one can see him with a prideful spirit.am really blessed by this. thank you

While the world seeks superstars that love to perform in the limelight and boast of their accomplishments............Godly men and women who are meek and humble prefer to direct the limelight of their accomplishment toward Christ, where it truly belongs. For what talent do we have that he has not given.

Dee says 9.12.2011, 08:25 a.m.

Meek is NOT weak...True meekness comes from a position of being absolutely correct whilst being aware whereas humbleness implies a potential lack of knowledge or grasp of a complicated situation, but genuinely not wanting to offend anybody, for any reason at any time, in any way.

CIndy says 9.12.2011, 07:05 a.m.

Meekness is power under control. May God help us to use the power, small or great, to do the right thing rather than to advance our own name or cause! Then we will be happy because our power will be used for Christ's glory!!

LINDA says 9.12.2011, 06:42 a.m.
