Science & Faith

September 9, 2013

He . . . has given you a full understanding of the truth.
–1 Corinthians 1:5 (TLB)

There is never any conflict between true science and our Christian faith. It is my own feeling that when all of the truth is known, it will be found that the Genesis story is a wonderfully accurate record of what took place when the world was created. This may be a telescoped record, giving only major points, but I believe it is scientifically accurate. To discard the Bible because we do not understand everything in it, or in the world, would be a foolish thing to do. Let me also suggest that teachers should confine themselves to those areas in which they are qualified. I have known unbelievers to attack the Christian faith through their teaching, even when they did not have the remotest idea of what true Christianity is. For instance, one does not send an art critic to write up a football game, or a sports writer to evaluate a painting. Ask God to give you the wisdom to keep things in their proper perspective, and—above all—faithfully read your Bible and pray every day. If you do, God will give you the faith and wisdom you need to meet any problem.

Prayer for the day

Father, each day as I read the Bible You reveal to me more of the reality of Your love and wisdom. I delight in Your Word!

All knowledge belongs to our Father-God, and He will let the hidden things of the world be known to those who love Him.

Susan says 9.9.2012, 10:10 p.m.

I once heard a scientist say, that the more he learned about life from his study- the more he believed in God. God as the greatest artist, scientist. mathematician. To him, the mind cannot fathom the greatest of God- that's why faith was so important

I become confused when science shows the world to be 4.5billion years old (overwhelming evidence from geology, cosmology, genetics, chemistry etc), but some Christians say it's only around 6000 years old. How come?

Indeed says 9.9.2012, 6:58 p.m.

The mission of science is to understand the world and the universe, and you will it most difficult to name an item you have contact with in daily life that is untouched by science (design, manufacture, breeding etc). [cont'd]

Everyone needs to watch the movie "The Genesis Code" It is about how science is catching up with the truth of the Bible!!

Stacey says 9.9.2012, 12:27 a.m.

Lee Strobel's book "The Case for a Creator" takes this subject further and examines many theories of natural materialism. It has given me insight, and believers should arm themselves with knowledge so they know how to respond to anyone.

John Will you please pray for my relationship with the Lardy in my life !!!! That she would be Willing. To marrie me or let me know what she wants out of our relationship ?!? Thank you so much and may GOD bless you. John

I believe that the Genesis story is accurate but that the timeline for creation has condensed billions of years into a seven day explanation. As a public school teacher for 35 years, I believe in "God driven evolution" in our universe.

Mike says 9.9.2012, 09:16 a.m.

It's funny how God speaks to us about things. I had a semi-conversation about this exact topic a few days ago with a new co-worker. I thought about it again 30 seconds before I opened up today's devo, and God provides some food for thought.

George says 9.9.2012, 08:45 a.m.

Reading to bible is fact, science is only speculation. The bible is my source of knowledge and how God tells me about ourselves, and where we came from. We need to believe in God and the Bible, and how He can work us in our daily lives.

Gerry says 9.9.2012, 06:20 a.m.

It has been said that the Bible contains an solution to every problem known to mankind . Either directly or indirectly. Our problem is we often get in trouble trying our own ideas, instead of "reading the instructions"

Sue says 9.9.2012, 06:16 a.m.

Each yr. as I read the Bible I learn more thanks to our Lord Jesus Christ. The Bible is the only book to live by.

Carolyn G. says 9.9.2012, 06:15 a.m.

The Word of God - the Bible - and the human soul are the only two things in this creation that will remain for eternity. Believe what God has said.

San says 9.9.2012, 03:02 a.m.

Thank you for advising me to keep things in the proper perspective. I have some scientific knowledge but that doesn't qualify me to bean expert in scientific matters. We all must take our position in the body of Christ.

Chipie says 9.10.2011, 06:50 a.m.

Am really blessed with daily devotion, continue!

Millie says 9.9.2011, 5:42 p.m.

God is so good. His Love is everlasting. Each day HE gives me breath, I realize just how much I LOVE HIM. No matter where I am HE is there. That is so special to me. He understands everything I do, good and bad. I pray each day that America will get on their knees and ask our Lord to forgive our sins and heal our land. Let's all remember 9/11.

nana says 9.9.2011, 2:09 p.m.

I am always blessed, enlightened with knowledge and wisdom every time I read the daily devotion. God bless you and thank you always BGEA.

May GODS peace be with you.

Ed says 9.9.2011, 09:39 a.m.

God's word tells it all! The evidence is all around us.

elizabeth says 9.9.2011, 09:35 a.m.

God's word is great! The power in it is beyond comprehension! Everything existing both seen and unseen came to being through it. Above all, everything else will pass away but the word of God is everlasting. Be blessed and continue preaching the unshakable word!

jason says 9.9.2011, 09:14 a.m.

My wife and I were discussing the Creation account in Genesis and how we believe that it is absolutely true. we recently purchased an ipad2 and found an app that spoke about 1000 facts about the creation of the world. however, the app was disturbing in that it did not begin with God creating the world, but evolutionary theory. My wife and I opened our Billy Graham devotion for today and it dealt with that very topic of God's creation. Thank you BGEA for being a vessel for out Creator God to minister throughout to my heart,

tammy says 9.9.2011, 08:42 a.m.

Great point. I know several people who went off to school as believers and came back a non believer. Leave it to "humans" to want to complicate something so simple and beautiful. I love getting these devotions, thank you for sharing them everyday!

Denise says 9.9.2011, 08:32 a.m.

May we look to Jesus today and remember the multitude of witnesses we join in faith as we run the path before us, growing stronger as we focus on Jesus during life's storms. I opened to Hebrews 11 and 12 this morning then was encouraged again with this devotional. Blessed be the name of the Lord who gives grace and strength.

Adu-Boateng says 9.9.2011, 07:37 a.m.

Papa God bless u so much for your wonderful teachings I love your daily devotions and may the Good Lord grant you the strength to continue. God bless you.

Julie says 9.9.2011, 07:26 a.m.

"This is the air I breathe-YOUR very Word, spoken to me"

Gerry says 9.9.2011, 07:00 a.m.

Instead of starting your day reading the newspaper or watching news on TV, we should begin each morning by reading the "Good News". Unlike the daily news, God's Holy Word is positive and uplifting. The facts contained in the Bible contain wise advice on virtually any topic. It outlines and suggests solutions to all life's problems. Some portions may seem complex and difficult to understand however we need to pray first and ask our Loving Heavenly Father to reveal the incredible, timeless truths found on every page.

Bruce says 9.9.2011, 06:53 a.m.

No other book I've read or continue to hear, read, study, memorize or meditate on has influenced my life more than God's holy word. In my profession I journey with the broken of this world which really is all of us. Given the volumes I've studied of psychology, theories of human behavior, constructions of therapy, the plasticity of the brain and neuroscience it all only comes into focus when it is seen through the lens of scripture. The bible through the Holy Spirit gives us a glimpse into the mind of Christ. This was Paul's prayer for the believer and it is not only possible but by God's grace available through Christ.

Tummie says 9.9.2011, 06:42 a.m.

Genesis story is the only one that has stood and will continue standing the test of time. That only shows how accurate and therefore scientific it is. Am always encouraged by your daily devotionals. God continue blessing you abundantly
