The Responsibility of Discipleship

September 3, 2013

Even while we were still there with you we gave you this rule: 'He who does not work shall not eat.'
–2 Thessalonians 3:10 (TLB)

One of the Christian’s responsibilities in following Christ is to have a new attitude toward work. So many young people want Christ without responsibility. Jesus was not a drop-out. As a carpenter, He worked hard with His hands. The Apostle Paul made tents for a living while he carried on the work that God assigned him. Whatever work a Christian does is done unto the Lord. He should do his best at whatever his trade or vocation. He should be faithful, clean, and honest.

Prayer for the day

Thank You for teaching us that work is a blessing, Lord Jesus.

Thank you so much for teaching the world of my Heart to consider for fingding the good Church. From this, i came to learn that being a Christian I must be a good Church which is not made by hand but by the power of Holy Spirit. Uncomparable to this earthy things.

LOrd I thank you for my job as aSAS programmer and I ask ou that you allow me to work until I meet you face to face. I do not want to "retire" as long as my health goes and I pass on.

God worked six days and He rested on the seventh. So as God worked He expects us to work also - not only to provide for ourselves and our loved ones but for service to Jesus. When we get to heaven God will have work for us to do.

Thank you for your beautiful encouraging thought. Yes, so many want Christ without responsibility. I sometimes wonder about one's faith/relationship with Christ if there is no works. It is almost like being a "half-way Christian". James 2:14-26

Thank you. Having a new attitude towards work is difficult to do and this was a good reminder on a labor day weekend.

To have a job is a God given privilege . There are many who seek one. When you find a job do your very best at whatever it is because even if your employer is not watching ......God is.

I have just finished listening to Billy Graham on TBN, in the year 1986 in Washington DC. He talked about the body and soul. Reading from mark 8,what a word! I am so blessed. God bless you always BGEA.

If what you claim is true than why are the overwhelming majority of modern day pastors not working side-jobs as carpenters or tent-makers? Perhaps affluent hardworking congregation members take this extra burden off of modern day pastors to help them run a church more efficiently and give them more time to do the work of the gospel?

Denise says 9.3.2011, 10:16 a.m.

GOD IS!
