Christ's Greatest Work

September 2, 2013

Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree . . .

–1 Peter 2:24

Jesus worked all His life. But the greatest work that Jesus did was not in the carpenter’s shop, nor even at the marriage feast of Cana where He turned the water into wine. The greatest work that Jesus did was not when He made the blind to see, the deaf to hear, the dumb to speak, nor even the dead to rise. The greatest work that Jesus did was not when He taught as One having authority, or when He scathingly denounced the Pharisees for their hypocrisy. The greatest work that Jesus did was not in the great ethical program He presented to mankind—that program which has become the foundation for Western culture. What, then, was His greatest work? His greatest work was achieved in those three dark hours on Calvary. Christ’s greatest work was His dying for us.

Prayer for the day

When I consider the work of Jesus on this earth—which led to His supreme sacrifice—I pray all my labor this day will glorify You, my beloved Savior.

I used to be a wrestler...and now I wrestle with the powers of darkness...seems like life is one long wrestling match...but hey...i have the victory because of Jesus...so that gives me a constant hope!

Carolyn G. says 9.2.2012, 06:50 a.m.

Jesus had to struggle with Satan and his temptations. Only through constant praying was He able to withstand satan. So our lives should be the same kind of praying to keep close to Our Savior.

Gerry says 9.2.2012, 06:33 a.m.

Suit up with the full armor of God,daily. Satan is always planning an attack and in some cases he already has a foothold and knows our weaknesses. Just remember he was defeated at Calvary. Christ paid the price in full. Rebuke him in Jesus Holy name.

It is wakening, I believe many Christian today need to come out of the comfort zone and get to the battle field, there will be a time of rest, one of the last things Jesus told his disciples was to watch and pray. It is a spiritual warfare, we need to reach out to the unreached. Our rest is in Christ.

Ifunanya says 9.2.2011, 3:53 p.m.

Thank you all for commenting, it's strengthening. In all these things we are more than conquerors. For nothing shall be able to separate us from the love of Christ. I thank God for the hope we have. Jesus said in the world you'll have tribulation, but no fear cause in Him we have peace, we already have the victory! Rejoice!

Mike says 9.2.2011, 10:57 a.m.

GOD is good all the time and in all ways. HIS love, mercy, and grace empower us to face the struggles, pain, and sorrow that each day brings. In CHRIST our victory is assured, but the battle must be fought every day.

Lisa says 9.2.2011, 10:57 a.m.

Very well said.

Patricia says 9.2.2011, 09:55 a.m.

The Holy Spirit in us makes us to be a light and therefore we are a danger to those with the spirit of evil. We are a stench to there nostrils and the Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin the sin of unbelief in Jesus Christ. Therefore, the world hates us. The battle is always on. But greater is He who lives in me then he who lives in the world.

I do not always read comments here, but this morning, I chose to do so. I am thankful to read these five comments, but especially at this moment the one that Gerry posted at 6:49 a.m. It is like hearing wise Christian counsel in a decision making process on this side ot the keyboard. So, thank you all for posting because if you are prompted to post, perhaps God is allowing you to encourage someone on this side.

Michelle in New Jersey says 9.2.2011, 09:20 a.m.

Thank you for today's devotional posting. It gives me renewed strength going into another day, knowing the battles that rage on around us. Ever since I was saved in Nov of 2003, I have referred to one particular scripture as my "signature scripture". Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me".

Thank you!

Mike says 9.2.2011, 07:54 a.m.

The struggle continues even after salvation too. Paul spoke of this never ending battle and our available victory in Romans 7:18-25.

Gerry says 9.2.2011, 06:49 a.m.

Everyone, everywhere will have a variety of problems to face. Some will be far more serious and devastating than others, for sure. Though the nature of the problems may vary, the answer to any of them, should not. It is Jesus Christ and he is waiting to help with any and all problems. Your situation may even appear impossible to you but it is not unique to our Heavenly Father. Please, don't try and fix it on your own as it may worsen. I implore you to go to him in prayer , then wait patiently, He will help, according to His perfect timetable and plan, because he cares deeply.

JUDY says 9.2.2011, 04:47 a.m.
