The First Missionary

September 1, 2013

Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.
–Matthew 4:19

Jesus Himself was the first missionary! He did not sit by passively and let those who happened to be interested in His teaching come to Him. He went out where the sick, the sorrowing, and the sad were, and expounded His message of joy, healing, and salvation. Even at a tender age, He went to the Temple and “taught” the doctors and lawyers who were entrenched in the old traditions. He found His way to the seaside and intruded upon the life of the commonest of laborers, saying, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Wherever He went He challenged, uprooted, and changed men. And at length they nailed Him to a cross because He had upset their selfish, secure, smug way of life. Not only was Jesus a missionary, but He pledged His followers to be missionaries, too!

Prayer for the day

Wherever I go, it is a mission field for You, Lord. Help me to be conscious of this, so that I may tell others the joyous message.

If Jesus being the Son of God could humble Himself to go out and witness to unbelievers no matter who they were, then how much more should we be witnessing to unbelievers? As followers of Christ ought we not to walk just as He walked?

I really enjoyed and agreed with the comment above by Donald. We really don't need the most awesome, largest building, "mega" church or visbly spectacular to be in God's will to be an open minsitry to the flock of those people needing the Word and gospel of the Lord, God and His Son, Jesus Christ. A little whilte church in the wildwood would do just as well! My mother and dad were comfortable in a humble, small church as I am too. Thank you, Donald, brother. Thank You BGEA and all you are and do!

As a Christian I am the opposite of the way I used to be...when I was out in the world I wanted to be and do things like everybody else, now I want to be like Jesus...I don't want to be like everybody else I want to be different...I want to be like Jesus...

Jesus discipled directly to less than 100 people. We don't need mega ministry to be effective. We need to invest ourselves heavily in a few people and then trust them to carry the message of Christ to others.

After I was 1st saved was grieved because I could not go some place to be a missionary. The Holy Spirit gently said your home is your mission field and your first neighbor sleeps in bed next to you called husband, start there and where ever you go is a mission field.
