Root of Sin

August 24, 2013

Overwhelming victory is ours through Christ who loved us enough to die for us.
–Romans 8:37 (TLB)

The basic problem facing our world is not just social inequity, or lack of education, or even physical hunger. We are finding that highly educated and well-fed people have greeds, hates, passions, and lusts that are not eliminated by education. The root of sin in each of our hearts is extremely deep, and this is the basic cause of the world’s problems; only the fire of the Lord can burn it out. This is precisely what Christ came to do. He didn’t come to treat symptoms. He came to get at the very heart of man’s disease.

Prayer for the day

Father, root out the sin in my life—the shortcomings that are there—and fill me with Your love, so I may fight against the evil present in the world today.

I especially respect two men because they never put money first in their ministries, Billy Graham and Edgar Cayce! I tell the Lord I wish we had more people like them. Our world can't afford any less.

So important to know. Thank you Jesus for your love to me that you were willing to die on the cross for my sin and came back to life on that Easter morning.

Gerry says 8.24.2012, 07:19 a.m.

Sadly, even with our best intentions and effort we will continue to sin. This fact however does not give us license to sin. God knows our hearts better than we do. He knows the measure of our effort to do the right thing. He is faithful to forgive us.

Carolyn G. says 8.24.2012, 07:16 a.m.

Yes sometimes we are sucked into doing what we don't want to or know is wrong or possibly wrong and struggle later even worse....the battle is unreal within us and often we are tormented, but in our world the only way to hold on to hope and fight is with God. He will come through and gives us freedom from those errors and peace. I am going through a lot of this right now do to circumstances in my life.

Jessica says 8.24.2011, 08:51 a.m.

Once I realized I can't fight the battle without Christ, I give every day to him. When I fail I no longer wallow in self pity at least not for too long, I dust off my pants get up and face another day. I can't live one day of this life without him.

Joe says 8.24.2011, 08:36 a.m.

Amen

Moses says 8.24.2011, 07:34 a.m.

Father we pray that this root of sin should be taken out of our hearts. Send your fire to burn the greed, hatred, passions and lusts in our hearts through the name of Jesus Christ Amen

Gerry says 8.24.2011, 06:41 a.m.

The Apostle Paul wrote what all believers feel. There is a constant battle within, we do what we don't want to do, sometimes. Then at other times we don't do what we should. This only re-enforces how vulnerable we are without Christ helping us, daily. He is however, faithful to forgive and strengthen us to move forward. The Great News is, this battle will finally end, forever, in Heaven. Thank God!!!
