Where Is Your Treasure?

August 18, 2013

Lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven . . .
–Matthew 6:20

Many young people are building their lives on the rock of materialism. I find across the country a deep economic discontent among people in every walk of life. People want more and more things. They forget that we are enjoying the highest standard of living the world has ever known. We still have poverty, and hundreds of agencies are trying to do something about it; but we are dissatisfied. We want more, more, more. But Jesus said, “You cannot serve God and money.” He said that a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things that he possesses. Adolf Berle, in his study of power, points out that riches often make people solitary and lonely and,of course, afraid. Many times a rich man knows loneliness and fear, because when he makes wealth his god, it leaves him empty. You see, without God life loses its zest and purpose and meaning.

Prayer for the day

Knowing You, my heavenly Father, brings richness to my life and soul.

Nothing lasts forever in this world. Only what treasures we store in heaven with Jesus will last eternally. Love for other especially the lost is our greatest service for Jesus.

I say a prayer for Rich each time I see him post a comment. I pray God will supply his needs and give him a peace that only comes from waiting upon the Lord to answer our prayers. Continue to be faithful and He will answer you abundantly.

Money can destroy a person and family. I saw my father always buying but he was only happy for a short time. Years later he was broke and lost his home and left the family. Jesus is the way!

During theses difficult economic times it is easy to become discouraged. However , God in his mercy, will sustain you even if you can't see how. Stay focused on your daily walk with him . His mercies will prevail.

May all want to listen to and follow You. You had nothings when you were in the First-Coming, as saying,"Foxes have holes and birds of the aiir have nests, but Son of Man has no place to lay his head". However, we believe all things belong to You and come from You, Lord Jesus.

"I tell you, use worldly wealth to gain friends for yourselves, so that when it is gone, you will be welcomed into eternal dwellings." - Jesus

If you have been blessed with much thank God and use wisely. Pray and ask God to direct you. Hoarding it and permitting it dominate your life will lead to unhappiness and ruin. Sharing and using it for God's work willl result in personal happiness and Godly growth.

Very true. Sad to say a lot of people still pursue the road of materialism and consumerism and how people teach and push their children to make more money and be famous in this world regardless of how to attain it, even if it means hurting someone or ones own self along the process.
