The Mind of Christ

August 7, 2013

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
–2 Timothy 1:7

Many diseases of both body and mind are self-inflicted. For example, ulcers are often caused by worry and anxiety. Heart attacks are caused many times by overexertion. Unjustified worry, fear, prejudice, hatred, and envy can contribute to mental stress, which could lead to mental illness. So one way to have a healthy mind is to avoid those practices. But the Bible-way to a healthy mind is this, “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.” If you have the mind of Christ, worry will be offset by trust, enmity by love, and fear by faith.

Prayer for the day

Fears sometimes seem as if they would overwhelm me, Lord Jesus, but then I remember Your gift of power, love, and a healthy mind. Thank You for the promise of healing and love, as I keep my mind on You, my beloved Lord.

Thank you Ray! What a glorious reunion with my daughter it will be. It's been 1 yr since I wrote that comment and here I am still reading the daily devotions. I am grateful the shed blood of Christ covers all...schizophrenia did not win. Jesus did!!!

I know what you went through, Cheyrl, and you will always look forward with the joy and anticipation of being with her again in heaven. It will be the best reunion ever! God bless you and yours.

I praise God every day. He is always here for us in all situations of joy and sadness. I lost my son to suicide four years ago. We discussed God but he had not been saved. I haved struggled with many things but I was more concerned "is he in heaven?"

Difficult and tragic times are not fun. We sometimes forget that God is still very close. Even though it may not a seem that way at that time. Try your best through daily prayer to stay focused on his Mercy and Love for these trials will pass.

I have depression and anxiety almost everyday, I must remind myself that praying for Jesus to take my fears and give me faith, it's hard to do when the fear takes over, but it works, Fear is the absence of faith, and I must remind myself all the time

How let His mind be in us? Only You can do it. May let the Holy Spirit fill in us.

This verse in 2nd Timothy is of course the truth and yet the enemy has used it to confuse me about my 19 yr old daughter's death last year. Our daughter loved Jesus most in this world. She wrote volumes of journals praising Him and writing poems about His love for her and her love for Him. She had unexplainable health problems her whole life that the doctors couldn't explain (including seizures) and then she begins to suffer from psychosis at 19. She went into a ravine near our home and died of hypothermia. Did she disobey God in order to not have a sound mind? Did he restore her mind before she died? Would her first love, Jesus Christ, leave her? No, He promised not to ever leave nor forsake those who belong to Him. I wish the Bible explained schizophrenia.

Starting and ending your day with prayer and a brief study of God's Holy Word is a great way to stay focused on him. This will go a long way to remind us that he is in control of all things pertaining to our lives. We really have no reason to fear anything. Remembering all past blessings will remind your that he truly cares about every detail of your life.

Bradley says 8.7.2011, 00:48 a.m.

True

Mike H says 8.7.2011, 00:45 a.m.

Fear is said to be the absence of faith. It also could be described as the absence of Christ. Trust God put him to the test of his word and you will gain confidence.

DOUG says 8.7.2011, 00:20 a.m.

IT'S ALWAYS ENCOURAGEING TO BE ENCOURAGED BY WHAT OUR LORD JESUS HAS PROMISED US...THANK YOU JESUS
