Where is Your Treasure?

August 4, 2013

You cannot serve two masters: God and money.
–Matthew 6:24 (TLB)

Tell me what you think about money, and I will tell you what you think about God, for these two are closely related. A man’s heart is closer to his wallet than anything else. It is a staggering fact that for the past few years people have spent ten times as much for luxuries and non-essentials as they have for all charitable and religious purposes. This is a commentary on our shallow and superficial religious faith.

While the Bible warns us against greed and selfishness, it does encourage frugality and thrift. Even Jesus said to His disciples after He fed the multitude, “Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing be lost.” Although our Lord had the power to create, He Himself lived frugally and without luxury. John Wesley had a threefold philosophy about money. He said, “Make all you can; keep all you can; and give all you can.” Most of us get all we can, spend all we can; borrow all we can; and give meagerly to God.

Prayer for the day

Lord, give me a generous heart so that others may know Your love and compassion.

People look for happiness in money and materialistic items... No amount of money or things will ever make them happy and fill their void in their life until they find Christ... Then they will know true love and happiness!!!

Money has been my problem, but after reading this, I will look at how money can help me with my relationship with God.

I've seen my family destroy themselves by spending to much money and losing their home for pleasure. I have always made it a point to give to the Lord. I pray that others is the world will find God and not money.

Anything and everything we possess is because God has blessed us with it.We should be very thankful for it,whether it's much or little but hold it loosely. He knows our heart and our greatest treasure should be our relationship with him.It is Eternal.

Thank You GOD for all you have done for me and for always being faithful to me, even when I also stopped tithing because I got laid off, but now I have a job again and even though it's only part time, I know that the LORD, will bless me with more if it's his will, and I encourage all people to tithe, and not let the right hand know what the left one is doing and vice versa. In JESUS' and THE HOLY SPIRIT' name I pray! Amen

God is better than good. My husband recently gained employment after being unemployed for 2 years, but at a much lower wage than he is use to. I have been unemployed for 21 months now. During this time God has provided for us. We still live in ths same house and have not missed a meal. Our income has been cut 60. We are 2 months behind on our mortgage. Every Sunday the checkbook is pulled out to pay tithes and offerings. It is more important to me to pay tithes/offerings. In the Bible regarding tithes read Malachi 3:10

Lord, You are our King not money, everything else. However, there are many times that we bow and kneel before the power of money. Please forgive and help us to be always with You.

I am so happy that my husband and I have made a budget and are going to start tithing again... Like many Americans these days we stopped thinking because of the bad economy and job losses... we saw that even then God did not let us down in this 4 years of not the thing and decided that it is time to go back to our old ways because of his great mercies and faithfulness to us, even though we did not deserved it. The bible says that God did not give us the spirit of fear... Thank you Lord!

We are suppose to rule money and not let money rules us. Money can either help us or destroy us, the choice is up to us.

Gerry says 8.4.2011, 07:11 a.m.

We all need a certain amount of money to survive. However when the desire for money exceeds our desire to love and serve Christ we are headed to big trouble. Be a happy giver not a unhappy hoarder because the old saying still holds true "you can't take it with you"
