Sufficient to Save

August 3, 2013

There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
–Proverbs 14:12

A line of human thought that seems right to many people is the idea of self-redemption. Man thinks he must work at righteousness to save himself. After all, it was man who sinned and as we say, “God helps those who help themselves.” But a greater truth than this emerges from the Bible—the truth that God helps those who cannot help themselves. We cannot save ourselves. It is noble to be upright if we can. It is admirable to be honest, kind, and compassionate. It would seem that these characteristics would be sufficient to save our souls. But the Bible says that though this way seems right, it is wrong.

Prayer for the day

Father, I know that my attempts at living a good life are nothing compared to my beloved Savior, Jesus Christ; but because of Him I can come to You, knowing He has redeemed me.

All sins are equal no matter how small or large they are. Its great to show kindness and compassion to people, but that will not save you or get you saved. Only the precious blood of our Savior Jesus Christ the Son of God can save you.

Good deeds should be a natural byproduct of all Christians. However as Billy points out they will not save you. God's Word is very clear the only way for Salvation is through his Holy Son , our Savior , Jesus Christ.

As thy Word says, we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us.

What a peace to know that when I fall short of The 10 Commandments, The Lord has my back! Thank you BGEA for all of the daily devotions that are so uplifting to begin the day.

Joe says 8.3.2011, 08:34 a.m.

May the body and blood of Jesus Christ bring all poor sinners to everlasting life.

Gerry says 8.3.2011, 04:28 a.m.

We are totally helpless to save ourselves. All our attempts are futile. If we could Christ died a terrible death for nothing. Fact is salvation is free for the asking. If you have never truly met Christ, then why wait a moment longer. He is waiting for you to call out ...........now.
