The Power of Choice

July 13, 2013

The Lord hath anointed me . . . to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound.
–Isaiah 61:1

Viktor Frankl in his book, "Man’s Search for Meaning," describes the reactions of two brothers with the same heredity, the same environment, in the same concentration camp under the Nazis. One became a saint and the other a swine. Frankl tells us the reason why. He said, “Each man has within him the power to choose how he will react to any given situation.” God has given us the power of choice. Some people today do not wish to accept the responsibility for their actions. They blame society. They blame the environment. They blame the schools. They blame the circumstances. But Adam sinned in a perfect environment under perfect circumstances. We can’t blame it all on somebody else. We must accept the blame ourselves for our part. Society is made up of individuals. If we have social injustice, we’re the ones who are wrong; we’re part of it. Let’s accept our responsibility to do something about it.

Prayer for the day

With Your help, living Lord, I want to make the right decisions so that I may touch society with Your healing love.

Thanks Rev Graham. This fact is what a preacher tries to avoid. To me it is the biggest discovery of a lifetime. I am richly blessed by this devotional.

The only person responsible for a bad choice or decision is the person in the mirror.

My Father Herman, my Mother Loretta, brother Michael and myself grew up in the 60's and 70's and as we grew together as a family, Mr. Graham has been a part of our family til this very day. Billy Graham in my opinion is the Best Pastor Ever! I love to read his Daily Devotions and I love to watch videos of his Sermons. Billy Graham has always done what is right, not popular. To anyone who has not yet seen the biographical film, Billy Graham: The Early Years, I highly recommend it. Thank you for teaching and helping me understand the Holy Bible and how to be a good Christian, Mr. Graham!

Praise God for Jesus! Praise God for Christianity! When I go to Church other people see this, when I ran to the altar, other people see this, when I got baptised in water, other people see this! We will just have to set an example for others to see how to live a good life...I am following Jesus...

Gerry says 7.13.2011, 06:03 a.m.

We all face a variety of circumstances in life where we must make choices. Sometimes we make wise choices and other time we make poor choices. Either way we are accountable for that decision. Our best choices always began with prayer and meditation, seeking God's guidance will result in the correct choice.

Sharon says 7.13.2011, 02:10 a.m.

Our choices dictate who we are. The greatest choice we face is whether to accept the Lord Jesus Christ as the Son of God who died for our sins but who rose again. Ultimately there can be no greater choice as deciding not to accept Jesus leads to a very wide road that does not lead to Heaven and to eternal life....
