Questioning

April 29, 2013

“Restore to me again the joy of your salvation, and make me willing to obey you.”
–Psalm 51:12 (TLB)

It is not unusual for persons in their early twenties to defect from their early teaching. The reasons are many. Perhaps their exposure to unbelief “took” better than their exposure to belief. This is often the case, for the Bible says, “The heart of man is deceitful above all things.”

The human heart is as prepared by sin to accept unbelief as faith. Some person they regard highly has undoubtedly influenced their thinking; and for the time being they look on their early training as “bunk.” As someone has said, “A little learning may take a man away from God, but full understanding will bring him back.”

Some of the staunchest Christians I know are people who had periods in their life when they questioned the Bible, Christ, and God. But as they continued to examine the matter, there was overwhelming evidence that only “the fool hath said in his heart, There is no God.”

Prayer for the day

I pray for all the questioning people today, Lord, remembering times in my own life when unbelief reigned.

When we have doubts, just look at the creations around us. The sunrise, sunset, animals, even little children. God has created us, so lets praise His name for all the wonderful things He has done for mankind. Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord!

All believers will be able to recall times in the walk when they were challenged by their lack of faith. We wonder why, many things occur that don't make sense to us. Bottom line is Gods ways are not our ways. He is Sovereign.

When my dad died last July, I spent hours reading everything about Heaven. Then I prayed, "Oh please God, let it be real." How ridiculous to pray while questioning His reality. Lead a child...In the end, you just have to choose.

Annie says 4.30.2012, 09:16 a.m.

Loving Heavenly Father, I pray, Strengthen our faith and hold up our goings in Thy paths that our footsteps slip not in Your Precious name.....V. Raymond Edman said, "Never doubt in the dark what God told you in the light."

This devotion hits home for me. Im 18 years old and I've recently been questioning my faith. Graham is right by saying my exposure to unbelief has "took" better than my belief. I think I will return to Christ eventually. Just not yet

Patricia says 4.29.2012, 09:51 a.m.

Thank you for your insight. My desire is to always love, worship, and serve my God. There are times when I question, then I think of all the blessings and answered prayers, and I am ashamed of how weak my faith is. Please pray for me!

"Raise a child up in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it". I too was lured by things of the world during young adulthood. Once I became a parent, I realized the church needed to be part of my life once again. Now I see my adult daughter following a similar path. God does not mind if we question him, as long as we listen to His answers!

Gerry says 4.29.2011, 05:07 a.m.

If you have wandered from God's path and had a season of unbelief but now find that worldly things have left you sad and disillusioned, don't despair because God never stopped loving you ,even when you stopped loving him. Confess you feelings and sins and he will welcome you with open arms, for who can say they have not sinned, other than Christ our Savior.

Chad says 4.29.2011, 02:35 a.m.

I can't remember a time when I didn't believe in God, but I can remember when I accepted him as my Lord and Savior. I went looking for a Bible and a nice lady offered to buy it for me if I would read it. I said I would and I do everyday. Thank you Jesus. I love you.Amen

mick says 4.28.2011, 11:37 a.m.

I thank God that I am still not in my earlier, foolish ways! Now, I am often just foolish!
