Not Good Enough

March 10, 2013

. . . not having mine own righteousness . . .
–Philippians 3:9

People go through many doors which do not lead to the Kingdom of God. Some try the door of good works. They say, “I can get to heaven if I only do enough good things, because God will honor all the good things I do.” It’s wonderful to do good things, but we cannot do enough good things to satisfy God. God demands perfection, and we’re not perfect. If we’re going to enter the Kingdom of Heaven, we have to be absolutely perfect. You ask, “Well, how will I ever be perfect?” We need to be clothed in the righteousness of the Lord Jesus. There is one door to the Kingdom and it’s Jesus. And we will never get to heaven unless we go His way.

Prayer for the day

Almighty God, there is nothing I can do to be worthy of Your love, and yet You have given me Jesus—my Savior and Lord!

Jesus is truly the way to heaven. Believe in Him for he died for us on the cross. During this Lenten season let us remember that Jesus will return to this earth. We will never be perfect enough.

I love this devotional. I pray my wife would understand this. She works in healthcare and believes she doesn't need Christ because of her good works. She believes she has a golden ticket. I have no abilities to convince her otherwise. Any advise?

Scripture says there are many roads we can chose to follow in life. Some of them appear more appealing but they are dead ended. However only one, leads to Heaven. Chose carefully which one you follow.

Robert says 3.10.2011, 11:50 a.m.

There is only ONE door to heaven as said in John 14:6 - Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life, no one comes to the Father but by me." No other religion but Christianity will lead a person to eternal life!!

Ritu says 3.10.2011, 11:12 a.m.

Can't thank Him enough for showing us the Door, giving us His living Word and the evangelist who brought us to Him. May we be always aware of bringing more and more people to this wonderful Door- our Christ. Amen

Heather says 3.10.2011, 10:47 a.m.

Thank you for posting. Unfortunately, I think there is a lot of confusion out there about the path to Heaven. My husband is one of the people that believes that all he needs are good works to get there. I pray daily for his salvation.

Skip says 3.10.2011, 10:43 a.m.

Jesus said that He was the Way, the Truth and the Life and that no one could go to the Father but by Him; Sin is the problem; God cannot look upon sin; Jesus died for our sin and took our sin upon Himself and became a curse for us because He did; the Bible says that cursed is he who hangs on a tree; Jesus hung on the cross, or tree of Calvary and took our sin upon His body; God now does not see our sin and thus can look upon us; and not only that, but we are destined for Heaven because of what Jesus did; amen?

Rich says 3.10.2011, 10:24 a.m.

Please Lord look upon me with your light. In your wisdom see me through this crisis. Amen

sam says 3.10.2011, 08:07 a.m.

We have to be perfect just as our Father in heaven is perfect. And the route of perfection is the way, the truth and the life-- Jesus our Lord.

Sudie says 3.10.2011, 07:47 a.m.

I too, thought "doing good works and being good" was the way to Heaven ---until one day at age 18, I was shown how wrong this was. Some Bible verses changed my thinking. When folks asked Jesus how to do the "works of God," He told them in John 6:28-29: "This is the WORK of God, that you BELIEVE on HIM whom He hath sent."

Karen says 3.10.2011, 07:23 a.m.

And faith does not disappoint!!!

Gerry says 3.10.2011, 06:21 a.m.

Being kind, considerate and generous to people are all excellent qualities for anyone to have. However all these great attributes only matter if they are motivated by the love of Jesus Christ in your heart. The road to heaven is narrow but if you stay on it you will get there ...................for sure.

Lekaram says 3.10.2011, 02:05 a.m.

One cannot justify his negiligence in terms saying I am doing good and refusing the only correct and acceptable procedure of entering the kingdom of God, which is through Christ Jesus by a way of repentance and accepting Jesus as Lord and Saviour. and thereafter live a God fearing life.

David says 3.10.2011, 01:22 a.m.

AMEN !

Sharon says 3.10.2011, 01:08 a.m.

Only through Jesus can we enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Hence, why true followers of Jesus Christ are very aware of spiritual warfare. We know the truth and those against God and Jesus do not want us preaching the truth to the lost. However, in Jesus Christ we go and strength we derive from Him and His endless love.

mick says 3.9.2011, 10:17 a.m.

Jesus, and He alone, can help us open that Kingdom door!
