Spiritual Sensitivity

March 8, 2013

Stop loving this evil world and all that it offers you, for when you love these things you show that you do not really love God . . .
–1 John 2:15 (TLB)

There are certain elements of daily life which are not sinful in themselves but which have a tendency to lead to sin if they are abused. Abuse literally means “extreme use” and, in many instances, overuse of things lawful becomes sin. Ambition is an essential part of character, but it must be fixed on lawful objects and exercised in proper proportion. Thought about the necessities of life and taking care of one’s family is absolutely essential; but this can degenerate into anxiety, and then, as Christ reminded us, the cares of this life choke the spiritual seed in the heart.

Making of money is essential for daily living; but money-making is apt to degenerate into money-loving, and then the deceitfulness of riches enters and spoils our spiritual life. Much so-called worldliness in Christian circles is misunderstood. You cannot confine it to a particular rank, walk, or circumstance of life, and say that one person is spiritual and another is unspiritual. Worldliness is actually a spirit, an atmosphere, an influence permeating the whole of life and human society, and it needs to be guarded against constantly and strenuously.

Prayer for the day

Lord, keep me sensitive to Your Spirit that I may not fall into the spirit of worldliness and its lusts.

Jesus is our hope and help for today, and always!

Richard says 3.8.2013, 09:07 a.m.

The biggest problem in society today is the lack of spiritual awareness. We need to pray constantly for ourselves, our loved ones and others that God will instill in us the Holy Spirit to convict and transform us spiritually. Pray without ceasing!

The old saying that we can be in the world, but not of it, still holds true today. Give your cares and concerns daily , to Christ in prayer. Let him light your path.

Dennis says 3.7.2013, 9:44 p.m.

Man looks on the outside, and I thank God that He looks upon my heart. I pray that he sees "good" in me. I feel blessed to be covered by the blood of the Lamb. Only a sinner saved by Grace is all that I am. Thanks for the Cross!

Dennis says 3.7.2013, 9:41 p.m.

Thank you for this message Billy Graham. I have learned that I cannot serve God and mammon. My material losses (years ago) was my gain to the cross. Thank you to a close friend who shares the same. God reigns.

To be effectively, spiritually sensitive, I believe one must , daily , seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit in prayer.

Annie says 3.7.2012, 2:09 p.m.

Abiding in God's presence is the key to overcome the spirit of worldliness. The same time I cannot love God and the spirit of worldliness. Everyday when I surrender to the Holy Spirit and give my life to His hands then my spiritual life is solid Amen

Sandy says 3.8.2011, 11:56 a.m.

He who is without sin cast the first stone.

Kenny says 3.8.2011, 11:09 a.m.

God is within us all I believe. So many questions in the Bible with questions as answers which lead to more questions. The true you is born in sin yes but in Christ Image where God can actually see us. Let us not forget that to truly live true to ourselves is to live in search of what it truly was that God put us here for. We ultimately know but have forgotten from child birth why. He knew we would be here before we hit our mothers womb. I dislike it very much when people think that we shouldn't question God. I think we should, and I think we should grow, and I believe in my heart that with the questions, God thru Christ provides answers. I believe Lost is a relative word. Find yourself, but seek yourself out thru the scripture and prayer. Things were different now than they were when the Bible was written but everyday a piece of scripture is there that is relative to what we need to read today. God Bless everyone. Remember that there will be one who thinks hes in but is out and one who thinks he is out will be in. Keep sharing in God's word, and studying together. Remember where there is more than one there he is also.

Sidney says 3.8.2011, 10:50 a.m.

Its a crucial thing for believers of this dispensation to know when we turn from friends of God to his enemies due to friendship with the world, with the widespread evil influences of this age fighting against our souls. Thank God for the help of his Spirit for life and godliness, may we put His grace to work in our everyday living.

Gerri says 3.8.2011, 10:32 a.m.

Sin in your life can destroy you and everything around you. I failed recently to remember that God is in control not me and what a failure I proved to be. Thank God for his grace and forgiveness.

pam says 3.8.2011, 10:31 a.m.

"Worldliness" is the devil's product and he is a mass-marketer.

Gerry says 3.8.2011, 06:12 a.m.

Every day there are a new set of challenges. In our own power and strength they are insurmountable. The ultimate deceiver, Satan is cunningly trying to offer "worldly things" and or situations to steer us off the course God would have us to follow. It is only in Christ's power and by keeping our focus on his word, that we can overcome worldly temptations and claim victory.

sam says 3.8.2011, 05:37 a.m.

Keeping our spiritual antenna active and primed towards Jesus will deflect the waves of worldly attractions we face every day.

Kofi says 3.8.2011, 05:32 a.m.

Yes, It is encouraging, we need to be careful to our choices and desires as a believer.

John says 3.8.2011, 03:01 a.m.

The greatest challenge for any Christian in today's world is to live without committing any sin.

mick says 3.7.2011, 11:42 a.m.

we are continuously lost in this world!
