Meditate on Scripture

March 1, 2013

How can a young man stay pure? By reading your Word and following its rules.
–Psalm 119:9 (TLB)

Many of the difficulties we experience as Christians can be traced to a lack of Bible study and reading. We should not be content to skim through a chapter merely to satisfy our conscience. Hide the Word of God in your heart! A little portion well digested is of greater value to the soul than a lengthy portion scanned hurriedly. Do not be discouraged because you cannot understand it all. Go on reading. As you read, the Holy Spirit will enlighten the passages for you. Reading the Bible has a purifying effect upon the heart and mind.

Prayer for the day

Let the enlightenment of the riches of Your Word sink deep within my soul, Lord.

I think God has anointed some to writhe Bible Commentaries, Bible Dictionaries, Study Bible comments, and Concordances. These study aids have been very helpful to me.

Dennis says 3.1.2013, 8:16 p.m.

Faith comes by hearing. We will "hear" the Word of God as we read. The Holy Sprit speaks to our hearts. May you open my mind Lord to receive your Word. Amen

Marjorie says 3.1.2013, 6:28 p.m.

Is it me or do others feel this way too? I just want to snuggle in the arms of Jesus our Lord, I feel so safe and happy there. What a wonderful Father we have. God's love has no match.

Steve says 3.1.2013, 4:32 p.m.

George says 3.1.2013, 12:25 a.m.

It wasn't until recently that I actually opened up the Bible and read God's word. I'm on my second time around, with a lot more insight. I also read about the archaeological findings that make those in the Bible come to life. I thank God for all that

Dana says 3.1.2013, 12:17 a.m.

I was just reading: Luke: 8. God's word lights the path for us to walk on. In obedience, He gives understanding to the surrendered heart. What a gift and responsibility; what an honor. I love you Jesus!!! Thank you!!!

When the enemy sends weapons in a variety of forms against us, we can defend ourselves most powerfully with the Word of God!

Gerry says 3.1.2013, 08:05 a.m.

Studying God's Holy Word daily is the spiritual nourishment I need to prepare me for whatever lies ahead. It's far more important than anything else I may do.

Dennis says 2.27.2013, 6:30 p.m.

When Christ was tempted in the desert He always quoted the word of God. This is very powerful. We must remember that to quote the Word is to first "know" the Word. The enemy has no choice, but to flee. May God help me to take the time to read it. Ame

Chad says 3.1.2012, 3:10 p.m.

I believe a lot of people have lost their faith. I want to save as many as I can. If everyone joins together we can all spread the good news that's written in the Bible.

Gerry says 3.1.2012, 05:25 a.m.

God's Word should be savored . Pray for the Holy Spirit to illuminate your mind as you read it. Every page of the Bible contains priceless , knowledge . May it become the meditation of my heart , Lord.

Annie says 2.28.2012, 05:06 a.m.

Father You said, " The Words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life" (John 6:63). LORD, help us to keep them always in our hearts so that we might not sin against You, for Your name sake, we thank You for the Living Word, Amen!

Annie says 2.25.2012, 5:43 p.m.

This is my comfort in my affliction: for Thy Word hath quickened me (Psalms 119:50). Thank You LORD, Your Living Holy Writ....., LORD, I will keep Your commandments....., Your Word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path....., Amen!

Granny says 3.1.2011, 5:48 p.m.

To get to know someone you have to spend alot of time with them. The same holds true for our Lord. The more we read his word, the closer we will feel to him.

Chris says 3.1.2011, 08:48 a.m.

I have definitely been guilty of this in the past. For example, starting a certain Scriptural reading plan and striving to "keep up" with the plan rather than taking the time to truly meditate on particular verses and allowing the Holy Spirit to speak to me, teach me, and deepen my understanding of that Scripture.

Gerry says 3.1.2011, 07:35 a.m.

This devotional format is an excellent tool for me personally with regard to slowing down and really focusing and meditating on what is written. The option to post a comment is one of the key elements because it would be very difficult to comment on something that I casually skimmed through. It is also very enlightening and encouraging to see the other comments as well.

sam says 3.1.2011, 06:10 a.m.

If we believe the Bible to be the Word of God, let's talk to our Father daily and meaningfully.

mick says 2.28.2011, 1:05 p.m.

A Scriptural passage may not be as meaningful today as digested by a tomorrow
