Giving Back What is His

February 7, 2013

“But if someone who is supposed to be a Christian has money enough to live well, and sees a brother in need, and won’t help him—how can God’s love be within him?”
–1 John 3:17 (TLB)

You know that the hardest thing for you to give up is your money. It represents your time, your energy, your talents, your total personality converted into currency. We usually hold on to it tenaciously, yet it is uncertain in value and we cannot take it into the next world. The Scripture teaches that we are stewards for a little while of all we earn. If we misuse it, as did the man who buried his talent, it brings upon us the severest judgment of God. The tithe is the Lord’s. If you use it for yourself, you are robbing God. We are to take the tithe as a standard, but to go beyond the tithe is an indication of our gratefulness for God’s gifts to us. In the midst of sorrow and trouble, this life has many blessings and enjoyments which have come from the hand of God. Even our capacity for love is a gift from God. We show our gratitude by giving back to Him a part of that which He has given to us.

Prayer for the day

Give me a generous heart, Father, that does not grudgingly give back to You all that is rightfully Yours.

Giving is an act of love: God gave His only begotten Son for us (John 3:16). Dear Lord, Thank you for giving us your greatest treasure. Give me a more generous heart. Amen.

Love this devotion! It is much better to give than to receive! What a blessing to bless others!

Penny says 2.7.2013, 1:32 p.m.

We cannot out give God. This is the only place where we are told we can test God. Give(tithe and offerings) and see how God will bless you in return! You will be blessed and amazed!! Its God's promise!

Raquel says 2.7.2013, 12:25 a.m.

I was tithing at 7 years old. My dad taught me early on to tithe. He said it was a way to show God how much you loved him. Today, I am tithing over 10 percent of my income, and I have more than enough in every avenue of my life. Praise God!

orem says 2.7.2013, 10:20 a.m.

God so loved us and he gave to us his only begotten son, while we were yet sinners Christ died for us so, if we do not reciprocate by obeying his commands through giving, we are not living up to the mark.

Leland says 2.7.2013, 08:24 a.m.

I confess that in my worry over paying bills that have accumulated because of my own bad decisions; I have consistently failed to pay the bill with the highest priority – my share to help God’s people. Dear Lord, help me to remember and be inspired by the poor widow’s gift that Jesus declared was more than any others, despite its currency value being much less, because she gave all that she had. (Mark 12:41-44).

Joe says 2.7.2013, 07:38 a.m.

I know God is speaking to me on this subject because I was just thinking about it right before I even open up this devotional. Thank You God for being a part of my life and I am sorry that I haven't always done what is right.

Pat says 2.7.2013, 02:51 a.m.

Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed Me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed Thee? In tithes and offerings (Malachi 3:8). As Christians, we have to ask ourselves, Is God speaking to US.....? Yes, LORD, I have heard You speaking to my heart, Amen...!

Ruth says 2.7.2012, 10:48 a.m.

God answered a prayer through your devotion Thank God and thank you.

kathy says 2.7.2012, 08:50 a.m.

Troy and I tithe at the church and I belong to a knitting and crochet group and donate to the needy. We donate all kinds of things and I belong to a quilt guild and everything is donated. I am donating something I started and when it is finished it will be raffled to someone in need. God has given us many blessings and I also do what I can for my granddaughter and grandsons. I am grateful for you and the book I received.

Becky says 2.7.2012, 08:44 a.m.

Sure, tithing has blessed my life and God has protected me in times of great adversity. I looked back and understood that He has remembered my gifts to the poor and tithes unto Him, and gave me what I needed when I faced extreme problems.

George says 2.7.2012, 08:23 a.m.

God has blessed over the years, and we in turn have returned the blessings with gifts for needy children to tithing. It is our way we to see others less fortunate to be blessed.

Karen says 2.7.2012, 08:21 a.m.

We've found that when we tithe, the Lord never let's us down. It feels so good to give to others, to help them, and to share what the Lord has given us. We've found immeasurable blessings in giving!

terry says 2.7.2012, 08:17 a.m.

Jesus who poured out his blood for us also owns the cattle on a thousand hills. May we be hilarious givers!

Gerry says 2.7.2012, 07:56 a.m.

More important than the amount you tithe is your attitude when you tithe. You can give 25 of you income but if you give it begrudgingly, it means nothing. God loves a happy giver.

leopoldina Rodrigues Guerreiro says 2.7.2012, 05:51 a.m.

Peace my friends? I appeal for your prayers for my son Richard who suffered the trauma of war. Thank you in Jesus' name and my thanks / a.

Jenni says 2.7.2012, 05:51 a.m.

I struggle with tithing, but I find when I make room for it in my budget ahead of time I'm able to. Another way to look at it for those of us feeling 10 of our income is a lot, is we get to keep 90 of our income! Pray for help to do this.

Kevin says 2.7.2012, 05:46 a.m.

I believe, the enemy uses that as ammo to try and make us feel less than. God sees our heart. We are Christ like therefore having Christ IN US how could we not give in abundance. Don't make cash the equivalent. Give LOVE...we Do.

gloria says 2.7.2012, 05:42 a.m.

True, the Tithe is the Lords', not that He needs it. I don't earn enough and my bills exceed my salary but choose to tithe. I pray for God's grace to become a consistent tither, Malachi 3:8-12 clearly states what God will do when we tithe. Bless you.

Becky says 2.7.2012, 05:28 a.m.

I heard John Hagee say "a member of his church ask if John would pray with him regarding tithing" John said "NO" need to pray. God has not changed what He expects us to give to him. I have never forgot that statement.

Mary says 2.7.2011, 4:19 p.m.

I thank the Lord for all of our many blessings daily! But I've always struggled with the command to tithe 10 percent of earnings. My husband and I barely get by as it is. After we get all of the bills paid, then purchase household necessities, there really isn't 10 percent left over. I guess my question is, what are we supposed to do? Is God ok with tithing less than ten?

Ángel Lionel Colón, Int'l MSSN says 2.7.2011, 12:51 a.m.

On Daily Basis I do read Your Devotions. I learn a lot from your Ministry "BGEA"

mick says 2.7.2011, 12:18 a.m.

Giving is really receiving!

Steve says 2.7.2011, 09:07 a.m.

We should not only be tithers of just our money but also our time and talents. Our Churches and communities need all three. Praise the Lord for his mercy, love and guidance in this important area of ministry.

Fred says 2.7.2011, 08:43 a.m.

Giving is important and I fail to to give but if I give to others in need and assist a person in another way is this also giving to Gods work. I am shameful and I ask for forgiveness from God and by fellow man if the little I give for one in need is acceptable to God.

Gerry says 2.7.2011, 06:01 a.m.

You cannot out give God. All I own is because of the Lord's extremely generous ways. If I received only what I deserve I would be destitute. Thank you Lord for your provisions.

sam says 2.7.2011, 04:38 a.m.

Giving back to God can be best accomplished by giving to our needy fellow men.

Terhemba says 2.7.2011, 04:27 a.m.

I am so blessed by today's devotional. I believe in tithing but many times I struggle to give my tithe especially when I start thinking of what I could do with that 10 of my income. From today, by His grace, I will no longer struggle to give him what is rightfully His. Amen.

Merenla says 2.7.2011, 03:31 a.m.

If God's love is within us and our love for God Is in our hearts then we should like to give and share with those who are in need. It is said that, 'measure of love is giving'. In reality LOVE is a choice (we make to give) and an action. God bless all.
