Jesus is Our Comforter

January 28, 2013

. . . our Lord Jesus Christ . . . which hath loved us . . . comfort your hearts . . .
–2 Thessalonians 2:16,17

Christ is the answer to sorrow. When Harry Lauder, the great Scottish comedian, received word that his son had been killed in France, he said, “In a time like this, there are three courses open to man: He may give way to despair and become bitter. He may endeavor to drown his sorrow in drink or in a life of wickedness. Or he may turn to God.” In your sorrow, turn to God. There are thousands of people who have turned to God, but you may be still carrying your burdens. God begs of you, “Cast all your care on me, for I care for you” (1 Peter 5:7). You who must go through the valley of the shadow of death, you who must say goodbye to those whom you have loved, you who suffer privation and misery, you who are unjustly persecuted for righteousness’ sake—take heart, take courage. Our Christ is more than adequate for sorrow.

Prayer for the day

In sorrow, Jesus, Your comfort will take all the bitterness and longing away and give me courage to face the heartache. Your grace will console me and Your arms will support me. Thank You, dear Lord.

God understands our heartaches and sorrows. He still wants us to come to Him. He understands our emotions our hurts, our needs. When friends are long gone, Him remains by our sides. "Cast your cares on The Lord and He shall sustain you". Amen, Amen!!

Turning to God, 'casting our anxieties' is of course the path to choose....watching others suffer through the loss of a loved one is a painful reality...Stay close always.

Gerry says 1.28.2013, 07:57 a.m.

My deepest prayer for any unbeliever having lost a loved one is to ask God to comfort you. To try and endure such a loss on your own is truly frightening.

Helen says 1.28.2012, 6:23 p.m.

I was thinking today that there should be a Billy Graham Day. We have a Martin Luthur King Jr. Day and other days to celebrate people who have made a difference in our lives. Billy Graham has changed so many lives by pointing them to Jesus.

We will all experience deep pain and anguish when we lose a loved. This is normal. We may be believers but we are still human. The difference is as Children of God, he will comfort us in an amazing way during those difficult times.

We just found out that my Mother has cancer. She and my Dad are my best friends. It has been so difficult. I am trying to give this all to God, but I burst into tears whenever anyone asks about her and I cry over just about everything. I feel so helpless. I am trying very hard to trust God.

Yes, it is true that Jesus is my hiding place and great comforter in my sorrows and pains....

Irlanda says 1.28.2011, 10:33 p.m.

I really and truly believe that Jesus is our comforter. When loved ones have passed I go to the bible and to the concordance and I look for joy, pain and peace. Also, I believe when we are stricken with grief he opens his arms wide and says I am here in your sorrow. He may also say for us to embrace him and he will say its okay I am here for you can weep on my shoulders. So yup, Jesus is definitely, Jesus is our comforter.

Cheryl says 1.28.2011, 2:10 p.m.

Thank you for sharing these words of comfort, God Bless

Linda says 1.28.2011, 12:46 a.m.

I thank God for Billy Graham and now his Son Franklin, they are truly blessed, so many lives have been saved through this Ministry. I believe in Jesus Christ, I believe he died for my sins, and rose from the dead, and now he sits at the right hand of the Father. Whenever God calls me, I want to go to Heaven to be with my Lord and Savior.

Bridgette says 1.28.2011, 12:35 a.m.

Thank you for the encouragement. I am so glad to know that I can cast (throw) ALL my cares on Jesus for He careth for me. The WORD of the Lord declares that He is a VERY present help in the time of trouble. He's closest to me when I'm in my lowest, my deepest places. To God be the Glory, for all the great things He has and is doing.

sharon says 1.28.2011, 10:33 a.m.

God uses the afflictions to draw us to his word, in Psalms 119:71 it says it was good for me to be afflicted that i might learn your decrees. We can in confidence say this when looking back on the trial and seeing how God used it to draw us closer to him, he is so good and loves us soooo much, to HIM be the glory forever and ever amen.

mary says 1.28.2011, 09:36 a.m.

Thank you for the message. I feel alot better knowing that God is closest to me in times of sorrow...

Karen says 1.28.2011, 09:33 a.m.

I agree, Sam. One of my favorite Psalms is 34:18: "The Lord is close to those whose hearts are breaking and saves those who are crushed in spirit." Jesus is the only one who can heal our brokenness. He not only makes us whole again (if we ask Him); but he fashions a stronger person than we ever were before. Thank you dear Lord for your blessings through our pain!

kangli says 1.28.2011, 09:23 a.m.

This really touched me... I always have trouble leaning on Christ completely because of many reasons, but still He has been faithful.

festus says 1.28.2011, 08:59 a.m.

I think this message to go to God in sorrow has provide succor to my pain as Bible says banish pain and grief from your life.

Susan says 1.28.2011, 08:55 a.m.

Thank you Jesus for walking with me in my time of sorrow. I feel you beside me comforting me. You are a wonderful Father.

Gerry says 1.28.2011, 08:18 a.m.

I cannot imagine watching a loved one die without God's amazing peace and supernatural comfort helping through that difficult time. I lost my Father (and best friend) in a prolonged, difficult way. Without God's exraordnary daily comfort I could never have endured the pain. Thank you Lord for your mercy.

sam says 1.28.2011, 04:07 a.m.

God is closest to those in sorrow. And it is such times that refines us into apt servants of Christ for others to be shown His light.

Gordon says 1.28.2011, 02:30 a.m.
