Wait Upon the Lord

January 23, 2013

Glory in the Lord; O worshipers of God, rejoice. Search for him and for his strength, and keep on searching!
–Psalm 105:3,4 (TLB)

Jerome, one of the early Christians, said, “Ignorance of the Bible means ignorance of Christ.” Job once said, “I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.” Jeremiah said, “Thy words were found and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart.” To read the Bible one needs a “quiet time.” Christian students often ask, “How do you maintain your spiritual high? What do you do on a daily basis?” I tell them about my “quiet time.” Some days it is in the early—sometimes late—morning, sometimes evening. Without it, my Christian life would be a wilderness. Isaiah said, “They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles, they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint” (Isaiah 40:31). So gain the strength of eagles, as the prophet suggested. Set a time each day when you can spend a few minutes alone with God.

Prayer for the day

Dear Lord, teach us to wait upon You, that
we may know Your strength.

Like an olympic athlete if we don't train each day we will become unfit. The result of becoming spiritually unfit can be very dangerous. Satan hopes this will occur so stay focused on God's Holy Word and continue to grow.

San says 1.23.2013, 02:24 a.m.

Having "quiet time" and experiencing God in these moments can give joy and happiness that is beyond what we can get from ordinary life.It is true happiness and real food for the soul.

Jesus has been teaching me the importance of spending time with him in his Word, I'm happier now than I've ever been in my entire life, I have fought depression and despair, I use to dread the morning sun, now I welcome it with excitement..

Man shall not leave by bread alone but by every word of GOD. We need bread daily, thus, we also need to have good communion with GOD daily and that is via the word. I pray we all will come to the realization of this truth. God bless you all.

Gerry says 1.23.2012, 06:33 a.m.

Imagine if God only gave us the same amount of time and consideration that we give him. It is essential that we make time to spend quietly with him every day. Giving thanks and studying his word are more important than anything else we will do.

Joana says 1.23.2012, 04:20 a.m.

Annie says 1.21.2012, 11:37 a.m.

And He said unto me, Son of man, cause thy belly to eat, and fill thy bowels with this roll that I give thee. Then did I eat; and it was in my mouth as honey for sweetness (Ezekiel 3:3). Holy Spirit, because of Your strength will I wait upon You Amen!

mick says 1.20.2012, 12:51 a.m.

don't let a day pass w/o sincere communion with God. each of our moments are His to share!

Patricia says 1.23.2011, 8:25 p.m.

As Christians we have to have our time each day alone with God, it doesn't matter what time of day or where we are, just know he hears us and answers in a way that is the best for us. We are his precious Children and He our most Wonderful Blessed Heavenly Father. God is most eager to answer us if we are true to following and learning his word, this opens communication with him, be patient, God will answer on his own timing. I Love My Heavenly Fahter in Jesus Name.

Kory says 1.23.2011, 8:11 p.m.

Justin says 1.23.2011, 12:57 a.m.

I find it difficult to find quiet time with God but I will make more of an effort to do so because I know when I do, I always feel more complete.

Joy says 1.23.2011, 07:54 a.m.

I feel that something is missing if I do not have my quiet time with God. He makes all things possible as well as bearable. He is always there to pick me up and put me upright once again.

Gerry says 1.23.2011, 07:34 a.m.

I could not agree more with Billy. Years before I would try to fit time into my sometimes very busy day to spend time with the Lord. Often I would wait until I was physically too tired and then try and fit a couple minutes in. Then I thought if God made the same effort for me I would be in big trouble so now I make every effort to start my day reading and praying before God. I now can't wait to spent time one on one with him. I have drawn a lot closer to him. Try it you will like it.

Ricky says 1.23.2011, 07:19 a.m.

I love this devotional. Reading Gods word is how we feed the spirit. We use Gods word to fight off the devil as Jesus did. Thank you Lord for your word which is truth. John 1:1 explains the importants of the Word. Praise God

sam says 1.23.2011, 06:08 a.m.

A quiet time with God everyday is in itself a great measure of faith. Let God speak to each one of us through His Word. Open the Bible and read. And see.

Mark (WARRIOR) says 1.23.2011, 05:20 a.m.

Dr. Billy Graham has had an immense influence on my life. Next to Jesus and of course being a living fallen man he is with out a doubt, I believe at this moment in time Gods most favored man on the planet. I love him as one would love a very godly old Grandfather.

Kojo says 1.23.2011, 04:31 a.m.

Andrea says 1.22.2011, 4:53 p.m.

The WORD of God is food for our spirit and helps us to grow, shaping us. God cares about us so deeply He builds us step by step.

ahenkan says 1.22.2011, 01:20 a.m.

The word alone is our strength for the next level , LORD TEACH US TO WAIT UPON YOU.
