Victory Over Death

January 21, 2013

O death, where is thy sting? . . .
–1 Corinthians 15:55

Death is the most democratic experience in life for we all participate in it. We think of its happening only to other people. We don’t like to grow old and we don’t like to die. The Bible teaches that death is an enemy of man and God. But it also teaches that this enemy, death, will ultimately be destroyed forever; that in fact it has already been defeated at the cross and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Death, for a Christian, brings permanent freedom from evil. It also means the believer will be like Jesus. We shall be like Christ in love. So much of self is involved in what we do here; but one day, in Christ, we will have perfect love. What a glorious time it will be when we get to heaven!

Prayer for the day

Jesus, Your victory over death comforts my heart and fills me with hope.

There is an extraordinary peace that God blesses Believers with when it comes to the topic of dying. I pray the Lord will permit me to stay longer and teach my loved ones about him. However I accept his timing as always being perfect and best.

It is human and christian to feel such pain at the time of departure of love ones as well as us - that is why our christian faith is giving us strength and endurance and filling us with love.

I worry about losing my loved ones even though I know they will be with Jesus. The pain of a loved one dying is so hard.

For death is not the ending. It's the beginning. We make the choice. To live for Christ and die to self. Or live for self and die to Christ.

Donna says 1.21.2012, 11:46 a.m.

I had near death experience and it was very peaceful. Nothing to fear. I also saw Jesus hand come out and heard His voice telling me to go back and that it wasn't the right time for me to be with Him. People need to know Jesus and not be afraid.

How could anyone not want the peace and joy that comes from knowing you have eternal life.

Gerry says 1.21.2012, 08:11 a.m.

Every believer, will get to see Christ our Lord and Savior, face to face after death. How Amazing is that ?

Bryant says 1.21.2012, 08:03 a.m.

As I get older, and realize how little satisfaction there can be here, even with the very best, even with endless toil striving for the perfect setup,it's a decaying system, only Jesus can satisfy , eternity is a long time :)

many, unfortunately, think that death is the ending; when true Christians realize that it is only the beginning!

Annie says 1.19.2012, 12:02 a.m.

I will ransom them from power of the grave; I will redeem them from death: O death, I will be thy plagues; O grave, I will be thy destruction (Hosea 13:14). Thanks be to God, which gives us Victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.....! Amen!

The following passage was read at my father's funeral, (2 Cor. 4:16-18): "Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." The day Daddy died, and the months which preceded it, were the most difficult of my life. But my Lord Jesus has since taught me strength, joy, and peace -- and hope in eternal life in Him. Praise God that death is not the end!

Aimee says 1.21.2011, 10:05 a.m.

"But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep.....For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which sleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.". 1 Thessalonians 4:13-17

Raj says 1.21.2011, 08:58 a.m.

Dear Jesus,Thank YOU for 'the' ultimate VICTORY! Praise GOD!

Gerry says 1.21.2011, 07:31 a.m.

For Believers in Christ, our sin debt was paid in full at Calvary. We may experience physical death here on earth (unless we are raptured first) but either way, we are promised eternal life, with Christ, in Heaven. Now that's exciting.

Bob says 1.21.2011, 06:58 a.m.

Nothing to fear but fear itself..... we are saved

sam says 1.21.2011, 06:21 a.m.

It is the death after judgment day which will be stinging, so we should beware because those thought to be dead now are just resting in peace.

mick says 1.20.2011, 11:16 a.m.

What other Comfort do we need?
