Billy Graham's Daily Devotion

The Secret of Real Living

January 2, 2013

O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee; my soul thirsteth for thee . . .
–Psalm 63:1

Some Christians have learned little of a daily devotional life. Some time ago a policeman asked me what the secret of victorious living was. I told him that there is no magic formula that can be pronounced. If any word could describe it, I would say surrender. The second word I would say would be devotion. Nothing can take the place of a daily devotional life with Christ. Your quiet time, your prayer time, the time you spend in the Word, is absolutely essential for a happy Christian life. You cannot possibly be a happy, dynamic, and powerful Christian apart from a daily walk with Christ. Christis calling Christians today to cleansing, to dedication, to consecration, and to full surrender. It will make the difference between success and failure in your spiritual life. It will make the difference between being helped and helping others. It will make a difference in your habits, in your prayer life, in your Bible reading, in your giving, in your testimony, and in your church membership. This is the Christian hour of decision!

Prayer for the day

I long for a deeper devotional life, living Lord. May I consecrate myself completely to You.

Imagine , if God only focused on us,the exact same amount of time , we focused on him each day. I for one would be in big trouble. He doesn't expect that. But he does expect a serious effort to spend some quiet, one on one devotional time each day.

God looks at our hearts not our actions the spirit of truth shows us the way,

That Statement is so True and Relevant to Our Daily Walk with The Lord Jesus...we need more of Him Everyday Of Our Lives so that He can be Glorified and we can become more like Him and be a Blessing to others who need him desperately!

O how Mr Graham as took up serving the lord as his life given assignment, and is doing it faithfully, is it not so that we have all been given our unique ,assignments to fulfill and should pursue, in prayer and commit our selves like Mr Graham

Having fellowship time with The Lord is a great way to start the day. Being The Beginning and The End, He'll ensure that your day goes well and ends well. Start it with Him!!!

The spiritually richest people are, Those who live a surrendered life, And only they can experience, The LOVE of God. Jesus said, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein (Mark 10:15). Amen!

MR.Graham you are so right. I have had a lot of my love ones pass. you tend to miss them more than the ones here on earth. Since this has occurred at 3am some one tells me to wake up and after a few times. I learned to go into prayer. Its beautiful.

Wayne says 1.1.2012, 10:08 a.m.

As I begin this new year I prayed and then started to read the King James version of the bible. I am going to keep on reading it, and hope that I can continue. I ask the lord before I read to open my heart to his word.I know that he will.

My mother practiced having a devotion every morning at 5:00 AM. When she passed away a little over a year ago at her house, it was at 5:00 AM, she had her last earthly devotion and began an eternal one. Thanks Bro. Graham for reminding me of the importance of a daily devotion.

Lily says 1.2.2011, 9:16 p.m.

Nothing more beautiful than to spend that precious time with my Love, My Savior, my All each and every day before I make or take a step each day. Thank you for that beautiful word you mention.. Surrender.. and that is what we need to always do. Surrender our all before anything we do. Thank you! I was created to praise and to serve. I was called to love like you love and see through your eyes Lord. I need nothing more than to surrender all to you for you to fill me.

vaiana says 1.2.2011, 12:29 a.m.

What a Loving Father we have. If we cling to Him like a little child, He will cling to us and never let us go, if I humble myself every day and seek Him, He will always be there for me. Since I became a believer, I cannot imagine going thru life without Christ.

Ronnie says 1.2.2011, 10:42 a.m.

What A great way to start the day.

Doug says 1.2.2011, 10:01 a.m.

Lord, help me to walk in your ways each day. May those I see each day know I am a Christian immediately.

Gerry says 1.2.2011, 08:49 a.m.

If an Olympian does not train each day they are unlikely to win at their event. So it is with a Christian trying to successfully live the Christian life without devoting regular time, spent one on one with the Lord each day. If possible begin the day this way and you will be better prepared to handle whatever comes your way. Thank you Billy and your team for this wonderful forum which helps make a devotional time a terrific daily experience.

vonnie says 1.1.2011, 8:14 p.m.

Spiritual growth does not happen without devotional time.

mick says 12.31.2010, 11:22 a.m.

You don't have to break a good habit!
