Photo: Franklin GrahamIf you are a Christian, there is no excuse for not having daily victory in your life by renouncing sin and, by faith, letting the Spirit of God have control of your life.
—Billy Graham.

If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!
(2 Corinthians 5:17, NIV)

Follow-Up: Growing in the Image of Christ

Photo: Everyday EvangelismWhen people decide to follow Jesus Christ, they experience an “extreme makeover” because they invite the Holy Spirit to change their thoughts, actions, and attitudes. Galatians 6:15b says, “What counts is whether we have been transformed into a new creation.”

The walk of faith should be a radical conversion process, where believers are being molded into the image of Christ. With this month’s theme and materials, learn how to bring God’s transformative power into your life and into the lives of new believers.

Photo: LonelinessA moderate sense of fear is normal, even healthy. But fear can paralyze a person. If people are living with many unhealthy fears, it can destroy their lives.

Don’t feel pressured to provide a solution to someone else’s fears. Simply listen, and discuss the possible causes of fear. As you patiently invest in building a relationship with someone, you will gain his or her confidence and be able to provide prayer, conversation, and counsel.

Here are some ideas for discussing fear with someone:

  • A guilty conscience and misconceptions about God’s character can cause an unhealthy fear of God. Feelings of shame also can separate people from fully receiving and understanding God’s grace.
  • Discuss how we cannot do anything to become righteous in God’s sight. Only what Christ has done can achieve righteousness for us. We must allow Christ’s sacrifice to be sufficient for us and ask the Holy Spirit to help us in our daily weaknesses as we seek to be more like Christ.
  • Romans 8:1-3 says, “There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering” (NIV).
  • Those who are dealing with feelings of worthlessness or anxiety, even though they may have asked for forgiveness, need to be reminded of scriptural truth. Psalm 32:5 says, “Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, 'I will confess my transgressions to the LORD' —and you forgave the guilt of my sin.”
  • Fear does not come from God; rather, God has given us all that we need to be confident. 2 Timothy 1:7 says, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline” (NLT).
  • Pray about the fears together, and ask for God’s peace.
  • Since you became a Christian, you may have dealt with fear. Share how you have conquered your fears, and share if you are in the process of learning to be less fearful.

  • Psalm 34:4
  • Proverbs 1:33
  • Isaiah 41:9-10
