Billy Graham Ministry Equips 26,000 Tweens to Reach Their Friends With the Gospel
Dare to Be a Daniel Program Trains Youth in Basics of the Faith, How to Share Beliefs with Others
April 30, 2012
CHARLOTTE, N.C., April 30, 2012 – In 2006, the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA) and President and CEO Franklin Graham had a vision for an initiative that would teach Christian students how to share their faith and make a difference in their schools. Just six years later, more than 26,000 have completed the youth evangelism curriculum and are now “Team Daniel” members.
Dare to Be a Daniel is a training resource targeted at tweens – youth, ages nine to14 – which uses the biblical story of Daniel as an example of how a life dedicated to God can affect an entire nation.
“As we are living in what some would call a post-Christian era, the influence of these young people shining a light for Christ among their friends and classmates cannot be overstated.” said Preston Parrish, executive vice president of the BGEA. “Recent studies have shown that up to 88 percent of high school students who were raised in evangelical homes leave the church by the age of 18 and never return. It’s our prayer that these 26,000 teens and young adults – as well as those who go through the Daniel program in the months and years to come – will have a major impact on that number as they purpose in their hearts to live a godly life and reach those around them with the hope of Christ.”
In a time when social issues – bullying, alcohol and drug use, violence, promiscuity, suicide – are on the rise, Dare to Be a Daniel participants are encouraged to share their faith by boldly standing up to say ‘this is what I believe.’ “We continue to be amazed at the reception Dare to be a Daniel has had over the past few years,” said Chad Miller, director of Dare to Be a Daniel. “Now more than ever, young people count their friends as having influence on their decisions. Our hope is that students trained through D2BD will guide others to be more like Jesus in everything they do.”
Dare to Be a Daniel training is offered as a 13-session and 5-session curriculum designed for Sunday schools, youth groups or summer camps, and as an online individual Bible study available at DaretoBeaDaniel.com. In addition to the website, Dare to Be a Daniel is also on Facebook and Twitter.
