Tebow, John 3:16 Drive Internet Evangelism

Gospel Spread Through Search Engine Buzz Around QB, Verse

January 12, 2012 - When Tim Tebow threw for 316 yards on Jan. 8, it launched a viral buzz over one of his favorite verses, John 3:16, which has led to thousands of people landing on the BGEA's Internet Evangelism website, PeacewithGod.net.

Tebow, John 3:16 Drive Internet Evangelism

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. — John 3:16 (NIV)

Tebow, John 3:16 Drive Internet Evangelism

Search John 3:16 in Google last week and in the blink of an eye — 0.11 seconds to be exact — more than 104 million search results pop up.

Ironically, it took all of 11 seconds for Tim Tebow's Denver Broncos to score a huge upset in overtime on the night of Jan. 8 against the vaunted Pittsburgh Steelers defense. The Broncos fell to the Patriots on Saturday night in Foxboro, Mass., but that didn't stop the Gospel message from becoming a viral hit.

Tebow — a devout Christian who wore the Bible verse John 3:16 painted on his eye blacks during the 2009 NCAA National Championship game — finished with 316 yards.

And if that wasn't enough…

Tebow's per-throw average: 31.6 yards.

Sunday's overtime TV rating: 31.6.

Pittsburgh's time of possession: 31 minutes, 6 seconds.

But there have been other numbers, eternally speaking, surrounding John 3:16 that have also been registered this week on PeacewithGod.net. The initial website launched by the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association's Internet Evangelism ministry known as Search for Jesus has had a very busy week.

Taking advantage of John 3:16's popularity in Google searches on Monday, the BGEA advertised a PeacewithGod.net landing page around searches for John 3:16 — the central message of the video-driven Gospel website.

Over 10,000 users specifically inquiring about John 3:16 this week have landed on PeacewithGod.net via Google, with more than 200 clicking they had made a decision to accept Jesus Christ into their life.

"That's what makes this online ministry so unique," said John Cass, BGEA's director of Internet Evangelism. "We can respond to exactly what people are searching for at that moment—and it's often a very simple next-step to the Gospel.

"Current events give us the opportunity to share the Gospel."

Churches and individuals can partner with the BGEA's Internet Evangelism ministry by clicking on the How You Can Help tab on the website SearchforJesus.net.

Always one to deflect credit, Tebow did not mention the similarities of the 316 passing yards and one of his favorite verses in Sunday's post-game press conference, but he was quick to give God the glory.

"First and foremost, I just want to thank my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ," Tebow said. "He's done so much in my life."

In the course of his preaching ministry, Billy Graham delivered countless sermons from John 3:16, which reads: "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life (NIV)."

It is possible with God for our country to have a revival all it takes is love and for us as Christians to live lives of integrity and confession. Thank you Tebow for loving others enough by quoting John 3:16. Heaven is forever.

Sara says 1.30.2012, 8:47 p.m.

God is great and greatly to be praised ! Even though Tebow lost the game, he scored big in heaven by giving Glory ! The John3:16 commercial was watched by millions of views! That s even more important than the game !

Tim Tebow...what an inspiration your living testimony is and you do not hide it. May God's grace, strength, power, and peace always be yours. Serve Him with all you have got. He uses you for His glory. God bless you.

Sarah says 1.21.2012, 4:21 p.m.

Any thing that I could have said has already been said. We need more people, not just the young, to stand up and praise Jesus Christ, our Lord, at all times, any where and where ever we might be. Thank you Lord for people like Tim Tebow.

LL says 1.17.2012, 4:52 p.m.

Tebow has resolved be Christ's vessel. What can God do with a willing heart? Ask Billy Graham or Tim Tebow. He wants to do the same with you. When you surrender your heart and life to Christ, He will abide in and work through you.

Gwen says 1.17.2012, 10:25 a.m.

Mr. Tebow, I have never got into sports, but I am so Thankful for what you are doing through God, and the commercials with the children are awesome. God healed me this past year, from Cancer and I will be forever thankful, I am glad to say that I am a survivor, and I love my Lord and Savior with all my heart. Psalms: God is my refuge and strength, an ever present help in times of trouble. I totally believe God is always with us and will never lead us astray. Praise the Lord with all my might.

Sheila says 1.15.2012, 12:31 a.m.

My 15 year old son had not heard about Tebow and the numbers--as I was telling him during watching the game between Denver and the Patriots--the commercial came on with the children quoting the verse. My son stated having chills run down his body!

We sure love the way God is using a humble pro football player to show the world as an inspiration to everyone to the reality that GOD, THE BIBLE and JESUS CHRIST are REAL and the ONLY TRUE WAY !!!

Cheryl says 1.14.2012, 9:29 p.m.

A major football follower (diehard Steelers fan!) I admire his love for the game. But what impresses me is the faith he shows every time he praises THE ONE who blesses him. "In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy paths." I believe it.

Shelomech says 1.14.2012, 8:36 p.m.

2 Timothy 4:7I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Tebow--You fight the fight! Finish the race! Keep your faith! Thank you for your witness

Shelomech says 1.14.2012, 8:32 p.m.

Philippians 3:14I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. Press toward the goal.

Shelomech says 1.14.2012, 8:27 p.m.

Acts 20:24 However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me--the task of testifying to the gospel of God's grace

Ina says 1.14.2012, 8:05 p.m.

PETE says 1.14.2012, 6:57 p.m.

...and, God is smiling.

Ann says 1.14.2012, 6:48 p.m.

It is wonderful to see and hear Tim witness for our Lord and Savior Jesus. I wish others would follow Tim and praise Jesus and not be afraid to do so. Tim keep doing what you are doing we are behind you. All Glory to God.

Patrick says 1.14.2012, 5:47 p.m.

God is always at work around us, when we see what the Lord is doing we should join the ranks, as this courageous, spirit filled young man is doing. Giving God the Glory for the great things He has done. Thank you Jesus

Linda says 1.14.2012, 5:28 p.m.

Thru OUR LORD AND SAVIOR Tim Tebow has accomplished more with his mouth closed than most with their mouth open!

Pat says 1.14.2012, 5:22 p.m.

In the WSJ, Fran Tarkenton wrote an excellent editorial: "Does God Care Who Wins Football Games?" The last paragraph talked of how refreshing it is to have a Tim Tebow as the "story" rather than stories of arrests and bad behavior from others.

Louise says 1.14.2012, 4:43 p.m.

Seems like God is flooding the country with His Grace now through John 3:16 before He has to issue His warning through Revelation 3:16. Today is the day of salvation.

Karen says 1.14.2012, 3:51 p.m.

I have loved Tom Tebow since I saw him play at Florida. God bless him for sharing his faith

Sandra K says 1.14.2012, 2:32 p.m.

Our God is great! How beautiful when His Sovereign Majesty moves so clearly through His servants! Praise and glory to Him!!!

Janlen says 1.14.2012, 2:28 p.m.

No one has gotten the significance of the 10 passes. J is the 10th letter of the alphabet. It signifies John. The 316 yards, of course, signifies 3:16. John 3:16 is therefore complete in just 10 passes for 316 yards.

RICHARD says 1.14.2012, 12:24 a.m.

MAY TOM DO WELL BUT MAY TIM CONTINUE TO BE VICTORIOUS IN BOTH FOOTBALL AND IN "SHINING THE LIGHT" ON GOD'S WORD. GOD BESS US ALL!

Liz says 1.14.2012, 11:51 a.m.

lois says 1.14.2012, 07:34 a.m.

TIM , keep on Glorifying the LORD in everything u do thank u GOD for using this man in a sport like football . We need more more people to stand up for GOD.

Gerry says 1.14.2012, 06:44 a.m.

I have absolutely no interest in football. However I have great interest in the spreading of the Gospel of Christ. God has chosen to work through Tim Tebow . May God continue to bless him. Tim demonstrates maturity by giving all the Glory to God.

Alan says 1.14.2012, 06:37 a.m.

I thank God for this young man and his example--I work with young people (as well as old :) and I am so thankful to have a Tebow to point to who isn't afraid to make his faith public. And to Todd above, I feel kind of sorry for you. . . .

Thurmond says 1.14.2012, 06:18 a.m.

I don't know why anyone would object to Tebow kneeing on the field when so many others doing their victory dances , and even jump into the stands. I pray that many of us would be so bold. To God be the Glory.

Carol says 1.14.2012, 04:49 a.m.

Tebow is quick to give God the glory! Quote: "First and foremost, I just want to thank my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ," Tebow said, "He's done so much in my life."

Rejoice says 1.14.2012, 03:42 a.m.

All praise and glory be to God, for this unique of bring souls to the kingdom. Avery inspirational and challenging to me.

Gwen says 1.14.2012, 03:36 a.m.

God's Word says we are to be bold and to be strong and to stand firm in the faith, to run the race, to be not ashamed, but to set an example. This describes Tim Tebows faith, a faith lived out unapologetic and not ashamed. I want to live like that.

Michael says 1.14.2012, 02:21 a.m.

Amen ! Keep going Tim and Never cease praying. Our Lord can and does work miracles in our lives. We love you Lord Jesus.

Jay P says 1.14.2012, 02:01 a.m.

I guess what we are witnessing is how God confounds the so called experts who cannot understand how Tebow continues to succeed. It's not by might and not by power but by His spirit. Let's cry out for a Revival

Jamie8 says 1.13.2012, 11:25 p.m.

They are calling all this 'magic', really? Praise God more Tebows are just around the bend. They say go broncos, I say Go Jesus! This is just the tip of the iceberg fellow Christians, PSALMS 34

Joyce says 1.13.2012, 10:25 p.m.

What a wonderful testimony of Tebow's faith. Tim, thanks for being a light for us.

Allan says 1.13.2012, 10:07 p.m.

God bless Tim Tebow. What an awesome witness for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He is truly a blessing and an inspiration to so many. Thanks be to God for this man who praises the Lord instead of himself.

Vince says 1.13.2012, 9:50 p.m.

Isn't it great to see how God uses a person who wants to bring Him glory. Who could have ever dreamed that a 316 yard performance would be turned into countless opportunities to share the gospel. It has happened at my workplace this week.

Cleotha says 1.13.2012, 9:14 p.m.

And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death. Rev.12:11, Testify Mr Tebow, TESTIFY!

Simon says 1.13.2012, 8:46 p.m.

Many believers have turned their back on Jesus Christ at job places, especially when it comes to publicly demonstration of the holy faith, but Tebow has proven that the Lordship of Jesus triumphs everywhere. Pray now for him always.

Frank says 1.13.2012, 8:27 p.m.

The hero or shall I say the heroine is Tebow's mother. It was her love for God and the child within her womb that made the final touchdown for morality, and the birth of a champion.

KAT says 1.13.2012, 8:20 p.m.

It's sad Mr. Tebow has received so much criticism concerning his kneeling on national television from those who also profess to love the Lord. His actions on national TV have helped to bring people to the Lord in a time when many have turned away!

Donna says 1.13.2012, 7:47 p.m.

In school today they had a MLK program, on Presidents day they have a play about the Presidents...At Christmas...the school had a "Holiday Party"....We need more Tim Tebows in this country!!!

Robert says 1.13.2012, 7:44 p.m.

As one who's been tending the Lord's fields for more than 40 years, I am so thankful for the faith of Tim Tebow. I thank God for him, for his faithful parents, and for every church school teacher and pastor he's had. What a wondrous work of Abba!

Angelica says 1.13.2012, 7:21 p.m.

There is no one like You Lord!!

Charles says 1.13.2012, 7:16 p.m.

At the end and overtime of this game, I was standing up while reading a book on 21st Century REVIVAL and asking GOD to keep Tebow's testimony in the light, especially given the attention and even much negative talk against him. HE did! :-D

Archie says 1.13.2012, 7:10 p.m.

Some have said God is not interested in football. I submit that God will use a faithful servant to bring attention to his Son Jesus. After all, He is in charge and used the foolishness of the cross to redeem those who believe!

Anna says 1.13.2012, 6:00 p.m.

I'm not a football fan, but am thankful for this young man- that he can be so bold in his faith, and proclaim Gods glory in EVERYTHING! We need more people to be so bold...it can change the world...

Psalm 91 says 1.13.2012, 5:47 p.m.

Please regularly remember this man in prayer. Hold him before God to be protected from continuous pressure to fail in his walk with Christ. He's made a stand to show Christ in his work. Think about it...how do you show Christ in you at your job?

Robert says 1.13.2012, 5:34 p.m.

I am a football Fan but am also a believer in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and I thank the Lord for giving Tim's Parents the right direction to bring up their Son! I also PTL for Tim's God given Talents and traits they Serve Jesus with Humility !

Diane says 1.13.2012, 5:23 p.m.

God takes care of His own. "For the eyes of the Lord go to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His..." II Chronicles 14:9

JERRY says 1.13.2012, 5:13 p.m.

Despite the liberal media, I believe there are more people for Tim Tebow than against him. I believe there are more Christians in America than Atheist. I believe there are more Believers in America than non-believers. THANK GOD for Tim Tebow!

John says 1.13.2012, 5:05 p.m.

I have a problem with the way folks are mocking the name of Christ and using Tim Tebow to do this. It's as though Tim's way of praying is seen as good luck vs praying on the field. I have a big problem with this. I am sure Tim is not seeking glory

Charlotte says 1.13.2012, 4:55 p.m.

Thanks be to God for allowing this young man in the position to witness in such a way. Other sports don't do that. Good role model for all those unsaved people and kids in the world.

Janice says 1.13.2012, 4:54 p.m.

It's such a blessing to see a man of Tim Tebow's stature stand up or in this case kneel down on national t.v. and pray to our Lord and Savior to give Him thanks and glorify His name by the way he lives his life each and every day. Thanks Tebow.

Cheryl says 1.13.2012, 4:53 p.m.

Tim Tebow was banned from putting John 3:16 on his face. God used him in a different way to get the message across. What a Mighty God we serve.

June says 1.13.2012, 4:42 p.m.

GOD is good, oh how I pray more people would give God the glory and praise for their success

Ann says 1.13.2012, 4:27 p.m.

2Th 1:5 Which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer You may be criticized for your faith, but look at what God has done, He counts you worthy.

CAROLE says 1.13.2012, 4:09 p.m.

TIM, MAY GOD CONTINUE TO USE YOU TO MAKE HIM MORE KNOWN IN THIS BROKEN WORLD WHO NEEDS HIM. BLESS YOU FOR YOUR SHARING OF YOUR FAITH.

Tina says 1.13.2012, 4:07 p.m.

And they thought they could squelch the John 3:16 message. They'd have more success plugging a whole in a broken Dam with their finger.

Don says 1.13.2012, 3:54 p.m.

Thank God for this individual who has the strength to let his feeling known all the USA that God does exist in the USA.

Alice says 1.13.2012, 3:35 p.m.

What a man of God - in this day and time and with his youth he still stood up and proclaimed his love for Jesus. I didn't know about the per throw average, overtime rating and time of possession being 316 until I just read, making chills-thank him!

Marilyn says 1.13.2012, 3:35 p.m.

What an outstanding young man! I am so proud to see that he professes love for and thanks to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ !!!

LOUISE says 1.13.2012, 3:33 p.m.

How very encouraging, in this time of trials and problems, to have this appear on computer. Praise God for Mr. Tebow's testimony a nd for his determination to make his "profession of faith" public in such a dynamic way!

Linda says 1.13.2012, 3:23 p.m.

We will be praying for Courage and Strength for Tebow, and open hearts and minds for those who mock him.

Bob says 1.13.2012, 3:18 p.m.

A coincidence is something that happens where GOD chooses to remain anonymous.----Its up to us to praise God when one does happen.

Betty says 1.13.2012, 3:18 p.m.

What a role model!!!! A wonderful Christian man. Yes, he is an inspiration to everyone.

Jennifer says 1.13.2012, 2:50 p.m.

What a true testimony...To God be all the Glory...amen

Connie says 1.13.2012, 2:46 p.m.

Love Tim Tebow, love his dedication and how he stands by what he believes! God is amazing, unfortunately him and the Broncos will have to lose to New England this week :) hehe!

Judy R says 1.13.2012, 2:41 p.m.

Glory to God, for such a time as this. Thanks Tim for reminding us of the difference one person can make.

Sandy says 1.13.2012, 2:40 p.m.

While God is just as much Lord of Tim Tebow's life when he loses football games as when he wins, and being a committed believer does not in anyway assure worldly success, I am glad for my young grandsons to have a hero of the faith playing football!

Todd says 1.13.2012, 2:37 p.m.

Don't be so quick to praise this attention hungry QB. Look to Matthew 6:1-13 I believe this refers directly to Tim Tebow. That is great he professes his faith and works to bring people to Jesus, but his actions on the field do not praise God.

Beverly says 1.13.2012, 2:21 p.m.

I am so proud of Tebow. Tim Tebow is exactly the type of role model needed in the Sports Industry and otherwise. To speak boldly about your faith and stand firm during criticism and mockery is exactly the type of Christian that God is seeking. Amen

Donna says 1.13.2012, 2:19 p.m.

Praise God for Tim Tebow. God is using this young man in a big way. Continue to remain humble Tim...God is your strength in light of the enemy's barrage. May He bless you and keep you safe as you stand as a true warrior for our Lord Jesus Christ.

Patrick says 1.13.2012, 2:11 p.m.

Dear Reverend Dr. Graham, It is always a feel of happiness to be rewarded for practicing the good that God has told us to share.  Such as Tim Tebow's call to spirituality with sharing the verse John 3:16. Tim is a wonderful Christian role model.

tom says 1.13.2012, 2:02 p.m.

I carry a card in my wallet with John 3 16 on it!! So glad to see Tim doing what he is !! We need many more like him, and fewer of the drug and sex abuse athletes!!

Dillon says 1.13.2012, 1:52 p.m.

The 3:16 references are amazing. It is beyond coincidental that Tebow threw for 316 yards at 31.6 yards per catch but on top of that Pittsburgh also held the ball for 31 minutes and 6 seconds, and the TV ratings. That is just mind blowing. g.i.i.c.

Sue says 1.13.2012, 1:49 p.m.

I never watch football. However, I will now follow this young man's games with great enthusiasm because of the faith he has made known through the media. Strange how this truly undoes them! Like faith in God is an "odd" thing! Lord bring revival!

Tina says 1.13.2012, 1:49 p.m.

Praise God for this outspoken young man, but let's not let Tim be our focus. Like Tim, give God the glory for all that he has done in our own lives. Let us share His glory with others.

Judy says 1.13.2012, 1:45 p.m.

PTL for this young man who is not ashamed to stand up for the Lord! He is not doing this for attention, but because he serves the one true GOD. Keep up the faith Tebow. We are praying for you!

Greg says 1.13.2012, 1:30 p.m.

To God be the glory!!

Aweilda says 1.13.2012, 1:28 p.m.

Praise the Lord that his arm is not shortened that it cannot save. Evidence of what one man, fully surrendered, can do for the kingdom. God bless Tim Tebow. and all of us who's hearts are established that we too might be a beacon for those in need.

Chris says 1.13.2012, 1:18 p.m.

God is Great!!

Larry says 1.13.2012, 1:10 p.m.

Sometimes God's messages are so subtle. This is a special young man who loves the Lord and allow's Him to use him without reservation.

Sean Christopher says 1.13.2012, 1:07 p.m.

Amen!!!

Joyce says 1.13.2012, 12:57 a.m.

We are praying for Tim Tebow that God will bless him and use him in a mighty way to bring many to Christ. He needs our prayers to stay strong in the heat of the battle.

jerri says 1.13.2012, 12:56 a.m.

I am so thankful that out of the thousands of people searching the site, that 100 people gave their lives to Jesus. Even if it was 1 it would have been 1 more. Thank you for having the site, it is a blessing in itself.

Darren says 1.13.2012, 12:53 a.m.

To God Be The Glory- Thank You God for using this opportunity to bring people to Jesus, so souls may be SAVED. When I just read this, it brought tears to my eyes. God works in wonderful ways and He is making the world READY.

TIMOTHY says 1.13.2012, 12:51 a.m.

This is great to read, and see how GOD works.

Dion says 1.13.2012, 12:49 a.m.

I'm not a huge football fan, but I am intrigued and proud of the passion and boldness of Tim Tebow. I'm a youth pastor and our young people are in need of role models like him to be unashamed of their faith in the public forum.

Sheryl says 1.13.2012, 12:44 a.m.

This is a great article, and I'm not even that much of a sports fan! I pray Tim Tebow keeps his eyes on the prize and keeps on giving glory to God. Sending this from Kenya, with a shout out to the author, Trevor! Great job, buddy!

Larry says 1.13.2012, 12:35 a.m.

A fine young man. A pleasure to watch and listen to.

Joan says 1.13.2012, 12:22 a.m.

Thank God for bringing a man such as Tim Tebow to the forefront of national news in these days when we need a hero so much. And a wonderful hero he is; humble and yet bold in his witness. God bless Tim Tebow and increase his influence.

Louise Maloney says 1.13.2012, 12:19 a.m.

What a great way for the lord to reach people! I told my husband that's one of the best medium to reach people.

Judy says 1.13.2012, 11:56 a.m.

Those who mock Tim Tebow for his unwavering faith, mock God. They are the ones who need our prayers. I thank God for such a beautiful soul in the sports eye!

Steve says 1.13.2012, 11:39 a.m.

People miss this one point on Tebow's stats from that game. Tebow was 10/21 for 316 yards. If you add 1021=4, fourth book of New Testament=John. Add it all up you get John 3:16. God doesn't do anything half-way.

Donna says 1.13.2012, 11:36 a.m.

God is working Miracles through this young man. It is very heart warming. I hope that our young people continue to pick this man to emulate. May God continue to Bless Tim Tebow.

Judy says 1.13.2012, 11:34 a.m.

I think he is an awesome role model for young people!! Great job Tim!!

Monty says 1.13.2012, 11:34 a.m.

Why all the controversy over a faithful demonstration? What a sad world we now live in that a man cannot demonstrate his faith without public outcry. We are small, God is huge.

Deby J says 1.13.2012, 11:27 a.m.

Praise God for men who not only speak about their love for Jesus but whose actions live out that love. Actions speak so much louder that mere words.
