Who Can Ever Forget?

Marking the 10th Anniversary of the 9/11 Terrorist Attack

September 5, 2011 - September marks the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks we all remember so well. Who can ever forget that horrifying day?

Who Can Ever Forget?

From the cross, God declares: I love you. I know the heartaches and the sorrows and the pains that you feel, But I love you.

Who Can Ever Forget?

Three days after those attacks, my father and I were invited to Washington. My father addressed the nation from the National Cathedral, while I served as a commentator outside with Judy Woodruff of CNN.

I still remember the message of God’s comfort and hope my father spoke to a wounded and grieved nation: “The cross tells us that God understands ... for He took upon Himself in the person of Jesus Christ our sins and our suffering. And from the cross, God declares: I love you. I know the heartaches and the sorrows and the pains that you feel, but I love you.”

This day is not only a significant date in American history, but it has affected all of us in a very deep and personal way, my family included. My son in the army has had five deployments and has already received a purple heart. Soldiers under his command have been killed defending our freedom. Friends that he went to school with have been severely wounded.

When we look at the price these young men and women in uniform are paying for our freedom, we quickly realize the debt we owe them.

Nothing, however, compares to the debt each and every person owes to the Lord Jesus Christ for dying for our sins. As the Apostle Paul said, “We are debtors” (Romans 8:12, ESV). We will never be able to repay what He did for us on Calvary’s cross. But the glorious good news of the Gospel is that God has forgiven our debt of sin against Him.

Jesus Christ paid the price for us through His sacrificial death, burial, and resurrection. Our Lord has “forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross” (Colossians 2:13–14).

The Bible teaches clearly that our Savior who was crucified for our sins and raised from the dead will come back again. As we look at the chaos around the world today, we certainly see some of the signs He told us would accompany His second coming. Everywhere I go, people ask me if I believe His return is close. I do. How near, I don’t know, but I believe time is short.

We need to tell as many people as we can how they can be saved before it is eternally too late. The best investment today is not in the stock market or putting money in the bank but investing in winning souls. The Bible says, “He who is wise wins souls” (Proverbs 11:30, NASB).

The 9/11 anniversary also serves as a reminder of the tremendous opportunity for ministry God has given to our Billy Graham Rapid Response Team. As a result of the terrorist attacks, we developed the Rapid Response Team to recruit qualified volunteers from all over the country, train them in how to care for emotional and spiritual hurt, and deploy them to major catastrophes as crisis chaplains.

Since then, over 4,500 men and women have joined the Rapid Response Team to represent the One who “heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds” (Psalm 147:3). Chaplains have comforted, encouraged, and prayed one-on-one with over 160,000 people at more than 100 disaster sites in the U.S. and a dozen internationally. Nearly 12,000 people have made a life-changing commitment to Jesus Christ as a result of this ministry.

God is at work, drawing people to Himself, healing hurts, and changing lives. Yet eternity is at stake for so many who still need to hear. Now is not the time to slow down. If God enables you to help us financially, a gift this month will be an investment in lives changed for today and forever.

May God bless you,
Franklin Graham Signature

I thank God for the opportunity to be a part of this community of saints and that He uses this ministry to be a bright light of His love, grace and mercy in this dark world. "Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful;and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, ...and all the more as you see the day drawing near."

I've always listen to the Gospel preached by Billy, ever since I was a child, I accepted God, but later as a young adult I fell to sin. God was always on my guilty heart and I received God and pray that I'll always stay in his grace. thanks for Billy and Franklin keeping me informed. I still watch Billy on Trinity station. God bless us all and keep me in your heart and prayers.

Everywhere Franklin Graham goes he says people ask him if he believes Jesus' return is close. "I do", he says, "How near, I don't know, but I believe time is short". Everyday after work I make the statement, "We're one day closer!" "To what?", my coworkers ask. To which I reply, "To our next vacation, retirement, (and in a louder voice) TO ETERNITY!!" Blessings to all because we ARE one day closer!

Billy Graham! I remember reading his newspaper articles in the Detroit News when I was a very young woman. I did not know the a lot about this great man of God whose articles I read form time to time. I did not know that he had counseled world leaders and people of renowned from all over the earth, but now I know who this man is. He is one of God's Generals and I salute him with love in the name of Jesus. I also salute you Franklin for the excellence in which you so humbly bear the awesome weight of your birthright. God bless you both.

I am 80 and 67 years ago my Grandmother took me by bus to a tent revival and I saw Billy Graham for the first time and to this day I remember him vividly. Tall and thin, light blue suit, blonde wavy hair, big smile, bible in his hand, but most of all, his voice filled with genuine emotion and love for Christ. Over the years I have been privileged to watch the Franklin family grow and serve God and His people with love and devotion. I Thank the Lord for placing this God loving family on my path of life. We are ALL Members of the human family -Billy and Ruth opened my eyes to this truth. I pray each day for the reversal of the trend toward ungodliness in our land and restore America's Christ-centered values. Praise the Lord for His unconditional Love?

Kathryn says 9.8.2011, 09:11 a.m.

I was 12 years old and watched Billy graham on TV the Holy Spirit spoke to me, but I didn't receive CHRIST till I was 22. GOD planted a seed when I was 12 through this ministry. I have been saved 35 years now and am so thankful for your dad. He has always preached the CROSS. GOD bless and keep you!

Monica says 9.8.2011, 08:53 a.m.

I am so thankful for Billy Graham and His faithfulness to hear from the Lord and respond to a lost and hurting world. My life has personally been changed, as I was going through a hard time in my mid twenties and questioning my life I turned the TV on and started going through the channels and my remote got stuck on the Billy Graham crusade, shortly after that I was crying and repenting and asked Jesus in my heart, I am still growing in Christ Jesus and have served on the mission field and have been blessed to bring eight people to the Lord!! Thank you Billy for leading me so I can lead others :) I know through our prayers and reaching out in love and following Gods commands that our nation will be saved, God Bless!

Rodney says 9.7.2011, 10:48 p.m.

May we pray for each other that our wonderful God and Lord and Holy Spirit will bring us all into a deeper, more sincere fellowship with Him. This, for His glory, and for the lost souls around our world. It seems to me, each day I could have done a little more for Jesus and our church. May God so bless us all. And, thank you Father, through our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen

Donna says 9.7.2011, 10:41 p.m.

I want to thank Billy Graham for being the one who introduced me to The Lord Jesus Christ, back when I was about 13 years old and would watch every crusade of his that was televised in my area (New Jersey). By The Lord's good grace, I was also able to attend a live crusade in Central Park in the early 1990's. Your ministry has been a great blessing over many, many years, and I thank God that He has enabled Billy and Franklin to continue in His service--even until the very end, when He returns....

Cindy says 9.7.2011, 5:13 p.m.

Thank you for the reminder to stay focused on eternity - sharing God's love and salvation message to those around us so they may know Christ and eternal life. It is so easy to become discouraged as we face difficulties on every side but, as Apostle Paul says, "This one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize." For several years I have allowed the enemy to attack my home; I should have known better. But Jesus stands ready to lift us up when we fall. We just have to look up, take His hand, and press on - no matter what. For the Bridegroom will soon come for His Bride.

Sara says 9.7.2011, 4:52 p.m.

God's seed was planted in me at a Billy Graham Crusade in Seattle when I was 11 years old. I went on with my sinful lifestyle until I was 40, when God finally drew me into His Kingdom. I am 75 now, and have had a very blessed life through Christ my Savior.

Marsha says 9.7.2011, 4:30 p.m.

Thank you, Franklin, for using your interview opportunities to present the plan of salvation through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Thank you for Samaritan's Purse ministry and the privilege we have of participating in Operation Christmas Child. We support you every chance we get and pray without ceasing for BGEA. God bless you, Brother.

Beth says 9.7.2011, 3:35 p.m.

Thank you all at BGEA and Samaritan Purse for the amazing and true Gospel of Jesus Christ you share with the world. Thank you also for the heart of love exemplified by Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, that you all demonstrate in your worldwide actions to assist those hurting and in need of hope and Salvation through Him.

Growing up, my dad was an alcoholic. Our family was very disfunctional. I always felt a great peace watching the Billy Graham Television Specials. I became a Christian as an adult, and I am sure in part due to Billy Graham Ministries. Just want to say 'THANK YOU!'. May God continue to open doors for Franklin, Will, and all the Graham Family and Teams.
