Coping in Times of Financial Crisis

August 9, 2011 - Whether it's the recent U.S. economic downturn, losing a job or experiencing an unexpected financial hardship, God is always there in the face of anxiety.

Coping in Times of Financial Crisis

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. ~ Isaiah 43:10 (NIV)

Coping in Times of Financial Crisis

We've compiled articles from Decision magazine, Billy Graham's My Answer columns and other articles relating to coping in tough economic times.

The Cure for Anxiety

Historians will probably call our era "the age of anxiety." Though we have it easier than our forefathers, we have more uneasiness. Inwardly we are more anxious. Callused hands were the badge of the pioneers, but a furrowed brow is the insignia of modern men and women

Struggling After Losing Job

We're really struggling financially, and it's all I can think about. My wife still has a part-time job, but I lost my job a couple of months ago and I just can't find anything. We pray and pray, but nothing happens. I'm beginning to wonder if God even cares.

Struggling After Losing Home

We lost our home and almost everything in it to a fire a few months ago, and it has been devastating. I know the Bible says we ought to give thanks in every situation, but how can God expect us to thank Him for this? I'm not sure if we'll ever recover:

Depressed After Losing Everything

We lost almost everything we owned in a flood a few months ago, and it has really been hard on us. I know I ought to have more faith that God is going to sort it all out, but the truth is we're depressed and almost overwhelmed. Why did God let this happen to us?

Finances: An Issue of the Heart

As much as moviegoers enjoy the gripping suspense of a startling whodunit, after the popcorn is gone and the lights come up, most will admit that they don't like life's real surprises, especially the kind that come in the form of an unexpected bill, a plea for a loan from a relative, or financial worries due to an accident or illness.

If God is for Us ...

Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones once preached a sermon on the terror of the disciples during the storm on Galilee. He ended with a sharp conclusion: “I do not care what the circumstances may be, the Christian should never be agitated, the Christian should never be beside himself, the Christian should never be at his wit’s end, should never be in a condition in which he has lost. … It implies a lack of trust and confidence in Him.”

From Desk of Billy Graham: 'My Heart Goes Out to You'

Who looks forward to turning on the news these days? All we seem to hear about are problems. People are losing jobs and savings. A person can get depressed listening to it all, and many people are fearful.

Thank you Billy Graham and Franklin and all the outreaches people and medical people for all they do. Esp. for the messages from God given to Billy and Franklin. Your 'Dad' is very proud of you both. Thank you for all the help you give to me personally. and for the reminder of how I am to obey and do His will, not mine.

SHARON says 8.28.2011, 11:17 p.m.

Sometimes in the midst of lifes trials and tribulations, I lose focus on what's important in life, and take for granted the important things in which I need to remember to thank God for. There are always people that are worse off. I need to remember how truley blessed I am.

Monty says 8.16.2011, 6:09 p.m.

Jesus recently cured my anxiety. I prayed about it for many years. I have been anxious most of my life, but I did not necessarily realize it was anxiety. I suffered a major Stroke in 2008. With a Stroke follows anxiety. It has been a very difficult recovery, but with Jesus all things are possible. Remember that always and you will be comforted in any situation.

Pearl says 8.15.2011, 11:59 a.m.

Moises, I am praying God will open a door for you soon. Don't give-up God has a wonderful plan for you. He will provide all your needs.

Gary says 8.15.2011, 11:57 a.m.

God bless all of you that have come upon hard times especially financially. I too have had many tough breaks in the last 4 years or so. Sometimes I feel like giving up, but God said he would not leave us or forsake us. I think about my situation, but I remember the Apostles on the boat with Jesus when they thought they were good as dead amidst the storm. But Jesus said to them, how little is you faith. Think about it, how is the ship going to go down with Jesus on board? That was probably the safest place on the planet. That is what happens to us, a little water overflows the deck and we panic. Jesus basically said that in the life we will take on water but we will not sink as long as we believe in Him. God Bless you, and may God give you better times ahead!

Gloria says 8.15.2011, 11:44 a.m.

Pray for famine and drought relief throughout the world. We are need of rain in Texas, children are starving and exploited throughout the world. Deep famine in East Africa. Heavenly Father, I come to you with great reverence and trust you. All of the anxiety in the world you have under control and we are trust you in your master plan for us. Thank you in the Mighty Name of your Son, Jesus Christ.

Rachel says 8.13.2011, 3:29 p.m.

I trust in Jesus, my wonderful saviour. He has always been there for me. I put full trust in Him. If I have problems in my life or good times, Heis always by my side. Trust in Jesus with all your heart. Let him control your life. "The Lord is my life and my salvation. He is the stronghold of my life." Psalm 27:1

You email could not have come to me at a better time. God surely knows exactly what we need in our lives at all times. He sends his people to us to comfort all of our broken hearts. I will continue to pray for all people. God is so wonderful. Thank you for sending me your message. God works for all of his people.

Lynne says 8.12.2011, 10:29 p.m.

Moises, I'd like to encourage you. In Nov. of 2009 I lost my job as well. I'm a 50 year old gal and at that point everyone was losing their jobs. I thought, "how will I be able to find a job with the job market so saturated?" Then I remembered, from being in the word everyday, just who My God is and what He promised me. So I did what I'm responsible for. Getting as many resumes out online, in person etc. I got out of bed at 6AM every morning. I had time to do a video of my testimony, of quitting smoking and drinking 12 years prior, that was aired on palm Sunday 2010 at my church. I knew who my God is and that He would open the doors and I got a great job in less than 6 months and am making a better living than I did before. No matter what you think your barriers to getting a job are, we serve a God who can do anything He wants and open any door he wants to open for us!! Remember Ephesians 3:20-21? I'm praying for you tonight, here in Albany, NY !!

Praying for Peace in Jerusalem.

Gail says 8.12.2011, 5:37 p.m.

Pray for peace for the families that were involved in the double murder in Black Mountain over this last weekend. One funeral held today, was very sad and hard, because a young life was taken as a result of his own behavior. That does not stop the pain the family is enduring and they all need prayers.

Ted says 8.12.2011, 5:32 p.m.

I don't normally ask for people to pray for me, but my financial situation has fallen to a point where I'm now in risk of losing my home. I tithe not expecting to be rich but as a faithful means of showing in a tangible way my trust in the controll of God in my life. I cling to Malachi 3:10 but things seem to only get worse. Please pray for me.

MOISES ESPINO says 8.12.2011, 3:48 p.m.

PRAYING TO FIND EMPLOYMENT AS I WAS LAID OFF 3 MONTHS AGO HERE IN HOUSTON...VERY DIFFICULT AT THE AGE OF 60...PRAYING TO BE A PROVIDER AND NOT LOSE MY FAITH OR FALL INTO A DEPRESSION....THANK YOU...AGAPE.....

Ann says 8.12.2011, 3:34 p.m.

I just finished reading Anne Graham Lotz book, Just Give me Jesus, what a wonderful read! Along with the Bible and Franklin and Billy's constant telling us God is the answer always, this reaffirms this truth. We have a GREAT God! We must practice what we hear from these warriors of the Lord!
