Billy Graham Home From Hospital

Evangelist Billy Graham returned to his home in Montreat, N.C., early Sunday afternoon following a five-day stay at nearby Mission Hospital in Asheville for treatment for pneumonia. Mr. Graham was hospitalized early on Wednesday, May 11. His physicians say his response to treatment for pneumonia has been excellent, and that he has regained strength, but emphasized that his recovery will be gradual.

“He has responded very well to treatment, with progressive improvement since his admission,” said Lucian Rice, MD, Mr. Graham’s primary care physician. “We expect continuing recuperation at home with very gradual recovery, returning to normal activities over several weeks. I’m delighted that he has come back this fast.”

Dr. Rice noted that Mr. Graham had experienced no complications as of his discharge. “It’s a really encouraging sign,” he said.

Upon leaving, Mr. Graham thanked the hospital staff for the care they have given him.

“I am grateful for this wonderful hospital so close to my home,” Mr. Graham said. “The physicians and staff have shown such skill and compassionate care. I am deeply touched by the prayers and best wishes of so many people for me, and I look forward to returning home and resuming my normal activities soon.”

During his hospital stay, Mr. Graham was able to continue with his usual routine, said A. Larry Ross, spokesperson for Mr. Graham. He had his usual weekly Bible study and prayer with his pastor, Dr. Don Wilton, on Thursday. He further enjoyed visits from one of his daughters and a grandchild, and interacting with hospital staff.

Ross added that during his time of recuperation at home, Mr. Graham will continue spending time in morning and evening Bible study and prayer with family and staff. He plans to keep informed of the ongoing ministry of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA) under the leadership of his son, Franklin. As he has done in the hospital, he also hopes to continue to stay abreast of current events through nightly local and network television newscasts and cable programs. And, as his strength allows, he looks forward to eventually being able to receive visits from close personal friends.

Dr. Graham - I want to add to these other acknowledgments of your impact on lives. My father, a So. Baptist pastor for 20 years and now home with the Lord, respected you as a mentor in the faith. We watched every crusade that we had access to on television and he devoured your books. As a result, you are also my hero in the faith. I have long admired your faithfulness and integrity. One of my earliest memories is of being a little 4/5 year old girl standing in front of the TV watching you. Thank you for your ministry and your life example. My prayers are with you.

Randy says 6.14.2011, 7:02 p.m.

Hi Billy,This is Randy. I'm so happy you're getting well. The world is always better with you in it. I am 60 years old and I have always appreciated you and your ministry, especially since I was 18 when I was born again after watching you on TV. I am now pretty much retired but, 6 months before retiring from the State of Maine government, I heard and heeded the Master's call - I responded with obedience - just like you did and throughout your life as a minister of the Gospel. I now know the terror and the joy of preaching and teaching God's word as a Pastor. I thought you might find this interesting: I have this "knowing" deep within my core that the Lord has promised me life in this world until age 88 (and after that it will be more grace if I still live). I confess that the older I live, the more I want to go home to be with our Lord, although I don't have a death wish. I'm so sad that I, no doubt, will ever get to meet you but I am looking so forward to meeting you in heaven where I will thank you again for being obedient to the Call. God bless you, my Brother.

I have been reading all my Decisions and the books that I have gotten. I have been a follower of yours since you first held a revival in Phoenix but I listened to all your TV too I just wanted you to know that my ex husband was ill with cancer so I came to take care of him. If I was reading my bible he would ask me to read to him.He wasn't a believer but I prayed all the time to have God to come into his life before he would die. The Lord came to me in a dream and said I could get him saved by me having him repeat after me the sinners prayer and put water on his head to baptize him. I got up got a cup of water and my Decision that was laying on the table open to the sinners prayer. He let me do what the Lord told me to do.And he had been a man with evil in him,but he was saved that morning. He was a complete different man from that day on. His grandson came to see him at Hospice He asked him what had happened to grandpa he didn't have that evil look in his eyes. this has been a blessing for me as I had prayed for him for years. My children are all believers. God Bless you for all my blessing as I have along time God loving person. Jesus has carried me for many years. I was a little and my Mom always took us to church and we lived way out of town on the ranch. But my Mom held Sunday school, we had 11 of us kids. so I rattled off enough but am so pleased that you are well enough to go home.God Bless you and all your family.

Dr. Graham, I was a 20 year old soldier present when you preached in Yokuska, Japan, to an overflow crowd in a large auditorium at the U. S. Naval Air Station in 1952, during the Korean War. I still have a photo of you which I took that day when you spoke to me. Now, at age 80, I recall portions of that Saturday afternoon sermon which you preached. I had been saved a year previously in a cold Camp Breckenridge, Kentucky, barracks and called by God to preach His gospel five months later while on bivouac. As president of the Yokohama Chapel Center, I requested of Mr. Wolgumuth of the BGEA in Japan at that time for you to come to preach for us. When that was not possible, he sent Mr. Bob Pierce of your team who graciously came to preach for us and to have dinner with me and some of our Youth Fellowship. I pray for your good health and extended life of Godly influence, just being in our world. God Bless you, your family, and your team, including Mr. Shea, Mr. Barrows, your son Franklin, and His son, Will, until Jesus returns, is my sincere prayer.

Ann says 5.26.2011, 11:19 p.m.

Mr Graham, I want to share the impact you had on my father's life. When I was saved at 17, I gave my Dad one of your books. Another time we watched one of your crusades. He never made a public confess of faith, but upon His death bed, he motioned for his rosary, afterwards he pulled out of the spell. He said tell everyone, Billy Graham said to hold on to the cross to get saved, Jesus saves. While he did not understand the whole meaning there. It was a precious last memory of my father. Thank you Mr. Graham for your testimony and loving Jesus so much to serve us as you do. God Bless you!

Patricia says 5.26.2011, 10:55 p.m.

Mr. Graham,I know our Heavenly Father is holding you in his arms and healing you and blessing you, each day.We are praying for your health to return. You are such a devoted servant of the Lord. I love you and your family.

I'm asking GOd for eternal healing..the homebound healing of Heaven. As much as I'd love to see Mr. Graham remain here, he's got so much more to look forward to at this point in his life. I pray in God's time, He'll gather Billy to his loving arms and say "Well done, good and faithful servant!"

Annatjie Coetzee -South Africa says 5.26.2011, 04:15 a.m.

Billy, thank you for the Gospel. One Sunday in 1986 I was so down hearted as I was just divorced and had no work, a friend of mine, that I never knew lived close by across the road from me, he saw me in a local cafe, as he was a reverend in one of our churches. As I walked into the cafe, I saw him and we recognized each other from primary school. he asked me why I looked so down, and then he told me to watch your program that day on our TV Chanel and I did, that day you spoke to me alone, that is how it felt, and I was reborn that day, as the Holy Spirit poured down on me...... the next day I went to the same companies I went to before and suddenly they had positions open that the HR Manager did not know about.. the previous week when I was there she said there won't be anything for the next few months.. Praise God. He used you as a vessel to bring me to Him. Thank you so much as you are a great disciple for Gods children.

David says 5.25.2011, 4:05 p.m.

Billy, I'm asking my God, His Son Jesus, and The Holy Spirit to give you strenght and healing and the Power of His might to get well and continue to reach souls for His Kingdom. You've blessed my life for a long time. I'm 70 years old and have followed your ministry through the years. God bless and hold you in His hand.

God Bless you

I am only 50, 51 on the 29th. I will go if He calls me home but I want to stay and do His will like you. I have loved watching your saving sermons and got to see you live in Sacramento once. I went up with the crowd!! I cry tears of joy always when the crowd comes up and they sing "Just As I Am." I have watched your sermons on the tv since a child, my mother always watched, my father hated it, before he passed I brought him to the Lord and my mother baptized him herself. I know those sermons he remembered and finally accepted Christ because of something you said I'm sure. Thank You and God Bless you and continue healing. If it wasn't for the Reverend Billy Graham, I would not be sitting here typing this comment. I often praise God for introducing Himself to me through Billy Graham. I did not know that God loved me just as I was until I heard Billy Graham stated that most important comment in one of his Crusade years and years ago. Billy it blesses my heart to know that you have such good care as your recuperate. Other than being sooooooo thankful to Jesus that He saved me, Billy Graham is high on my list to thank for all his preaching about how much God loves me and everyone that ever lived. I also thank his wife and children for the patience they showed while Billy was away from them. He was a great husband and father despite the fact that he was not always there with them. God bless you all.

Linda says 5.12.2011, 10:15 p.m.

I have respected you and your ministry and all that have been led to the lord thru your ministry and crusades all over the world, including my own salvation thru one of your crusades in Minneapolis at the Minnesota State fair grounds in the 70s I was home on leave from after 3 tour in Vietnam as a dust off army medic. I pray that your health may return back to normal and I know God will bless you again. He blesses me everyday, I know because I have survived throat cancer twice and lung 7 pancreatic cancer, all from agent orange in Vietnam. God has truly blessed me with health and life. I will praise His holy name as long as I shall live. Remember God loves you and so do I.

I did not think I would since I was so young when we left Charlotte and moved to Florida. I remember everything too and hope to be able to visit there too. I saw a video on one of the 3 Christian T.V.stations and it brought back so many memories. My husband left after 22 years, (met him at Northwestern schools).
