The Hope That Never Disappoints

The Hope That Never Disappoints

I continue to feel an enormous sense of urgency for the souls of men and women as we enter the coming year.—Franklin Graham

The Hope That Never Disappoints

As we come to the end of the year, I am reminded that we are simply that much closer to our Lord’s return, the “glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ” (Titus 2:13, NKJV).

The Scriptures tell us the latter days will be marked by increasing conflicts, wars, and disasters (Matthew 24:4–8), and recent events remind us how fragile and perilous our world really is.

Just a few weeks ago, North Korea fired deadly artillery shells on a South Korean island, leading to the deployment of a U.S. aircraft carrier and joint military exercises with a nervous South Korea. Within days of that incident, hundreds of thousands of top-secret cables from U.S. diplomatic sources were published, revealing the backstage drama and tension of seeking to maintain peace and security in an increasingly unstable world. The cables highlighted the nuclear ambitions of Iran and its rapidly growing threat to world peace.

Meanwhile, the fight against terror shows no sign of abating, as Islamic extremists spread their hate around the world, indiscriminately killing thousands of victims. The war in Afghanistan enters its 10th year, and our troops in Iraq are still in harm’s way.

None of this should surprise anyone who follows Christ and has a biblical worldview informed by the Scriptures. The Bible says that the heart of man is “desperately wicked” (Jeremiah 17:9), and from that depraved heart flows an unending desire for greed, power, and control. That’s why world peace will never happen. “Nation will rise against nation” (Matthew 24:7), not peacefully coexist.

While the world futilely pursues political and economic solutions to problems that stem from sinful hearts, believers in Jesus Christ are to be focused on proclaiming and sharing the hope we have in Him: “This gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come” (Matthew 24:14).

I want to encourage you to be intentional about preparing for the Lord’s return by being faithful in studying His Word and in prayer, and by walking closely with Him. I also urge you to be intentional about sharing the love of Jesus Christ with people you know.

At the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, we will be busy proclaiming the Gospel of the Kingdom around the world in this new year, starting in Haiti in early January, India in February, and Liberia in March.

In Haiti we will proclaim the Good News at a stadium adjacent to the largest homeless camp in the country. I was in Haiti just a few weeks ago, and my heart was broken as I looked into the plaintive faces of so many suffering people. Hundreds of thousands of people are still homeless, there is filth and rubble everywhere, and the recent cholera outbreak has brought even more misery and death.

What the people of Haiti need more than anything is the sure and certain hope found only through faith in Jesus Christ. It’s a hope that never disappoints, even in the direst of circumstances. Pray for me as I proclaim Christ, for the safety for our teams, and for the local churches who are working together with us for the sake of the Gospel.

Haiti is not the only broken nation desperate for hope. Liberia, a West African country with historic ties to the United States, has emerged from a brutal civil war that lasted a decade and cost a quarter of a million lives. People across Liberia are open to the Gospel, and churches there have invited us to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ at a Crusade in March. Pray that many people will turn to “God our Savior and the Lord Jesus Christ, our hope” (1 Timothy 1:1).

I continue to feel an enormous sense of urgency for the souls of men and women as we enter the coming year. Though the cable leaks exposed the private thoughts of a few individuals for the whole world to see, the day of God’s judgment will be much worse when “God will judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ” (Romans 2:16).

The Bible says that a day is coming when the hearts of men and women will be laid bare before a holy God. “And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account” (Hebrews 4:13). For the believer whose sins have been washed by the blood of the Lamb, there is “no condemnation” (Romans 8:1), but for those who have not believed, there will be only a “fearful expectation of judgment” (Hebrews 10:27). What awaits is Hell, eternal punishment, and separation from God.

Pray for us, and as God leads you, we ask you to consider supporting us on a regular basis if you can. We appreciate the prayers of the saints and are grateful for those who share in the harvest of souls through their gifts and petitions.

In coming days, I want to encourage you to keep your trust in the Lord Jesus. Despite the trials and tribulations that mark this age, He says, “Be of good cheer, I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). The Lord is always “our refuge and strength, a very present help in time of trouble” (Psalm 46:1).

May our Sovereign God richly bless you in 2011.

Sincerely,
Franklin Graham
President

You Can Make a Difference

God works through people like you to change the world by the power of the Gospel.

HAITI
The needs in Haiti are enormous, urgent, and ongoing. Your gift of $50, $90, $150, or any amount to the World Emergency Fund–Haiti can help keep Rapid Response Team chaplains in Haiti to share the love of Christ with suffering people, help in restoring ministries destroyed by the earthquake, or help with the Festival of Hope next month that will proclaim the love of Jesus amidst the chaos and hopelessness that characterize Haiti today.

CRUSADES
Across the country and around the world, people urgently need the Gospel. With your prayers and support, we are proclaiming Jesus Christ everywhere we can. Your gift of $40, $100, or any amount can help bring the Good News in upcoming months to spiritually hungry people in countries such as Haiti and Liberia or to North American cities such as Milwaukee, Denver, Winnipeg, and Los Angeles.

OUR GIFT TO YOU
Christians sometimes forget that the power of the Gospel is not just for salvation, but is meant for our entire lives. In his insightful book Living the Cross Centered Life, C.J. Mahaney unfolds the amazing potential available to those who keep the Gospel the main thing—every day. When you give a gift to BGEA at this time, we will send you a complimentary copy of the book as our thanks.

I do pray daily for you all at BGEA and pray God will even open more doors for His word to heard this year. May God, Jesus and Holy Spirit be glorified , through out the world. Thank you for being such a big part of all this to bring the Good News of God around the world." Pray without ceasing." Indeed we have to.

Colleen says 1.1.2011, 11:05 a.m.

I remember when I was a young girl, sleeping over my gram's house, and she would watch the crusades whenever they were on tv. I remember many things the Rev. said, but one thing always stuck out. He said something about being in a car once and something about not being alone in a car with another woman as to not bring embarrassment or unrighteousness or blame. I didn't get it at the time, but now I do. The whole world watches and judges, but the more blamless you remain, the better chance you have of being a better, more respectable disciple of Christ. It's a different world than when I was little, however, the message of God is still the same. Rev. had it right the first time. KEEP YOUR EYES ON GOD, AND YOU CANT GO WRONG. Amen. Love one another!

Rocky says 1.1.2011, 10:38 a.m.

Franklin, I usually don't say much, but I did want to let you know how proud I am of you. You had some very large shoes to fill, stepping into the President's role at BGEA. However, you have exceeded all expectations. This of course was accomplished only through the strength, wisdom and knowledge of our Sovereign God. He walks with you, Franklin, as He does with your Father. I have no doubt that you will succeed in Haiti, as in any other location that the Lord leads you. The Holy Spirit guides you, and Jesus is ever present in all you do. May God bless you this coming year, and may the great commission of God be fulfilled. "As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord". And we will be in prayer for you and your Father's ministry. In His service, Rocky

Very compassionate. How awesome is it that the BGEA is faithful to God. They are fullfilling the Great Commission, as all Christians are called to do. Pray that the year of 2011 will be the year that all ears may hear the Gospel. God-speed.

David says 12.29.2010, 8:14 p.m.

Franklin I too like everyone else, thank you for all that you and the Billy Graham and Samaritan's Purse folks are doing in Haiti and around the world. I'm 61 so I've seen many diasters like Haiti many many times. Hearts are moved, people give millions, perhaps billions of dollars, it is sent to the troubled land and later we see that poverty and sickness still exist, perhaps worse than before. What is happening to all those billions and billions of dollars and material aid Franklin? There must be incredible rip-offs all around the world. I'm sure that you do your best to watch the money but let's be honest organizations all around the world flood Haiti with money and material aid and the people are still in unspeakable condition, something is very very wrong Franklin. What are your thoughts?

Jervece says 12.29.2010, 4:40 p.m.

Mr. Graham, thank you so much for this letter. I always keep up with your mission of hope. I know the way GOD is using you and your family, GOD is going to do something great through me as well. We are "in C-H-R-I-S-T", the FAVOR OF GOD surrounds us, we are BLESSED and can not be cursed, LORD, I BELIEVE!!! Have a BLESSED and fabulous New Year!!! GOD is GOOD and JESUS is VICTORY WON!!! JN 14:6

Dennis says 12.29.2010, 4:06 p.m.

I grew up with the Graham Family. I remember my mom listening to the Billy Grapham Crusades on the radio after cominhg home from Sunday Evening Service. 40 Years of walking away from that and because of God's grace and mercy he was waiting for me when I came back. I have such a heart for the lost and hurting and wish I could do more than I do financially, but if we all as belivers, would ask God to give us MORE compassion for the lost we can make a difference for Jesus. May God Bless you Franklin as you now carry the torch of the man who had an inpact on my life.

Mary says 12.29.2010, 02:39 a.m.

Franklin, I am so very pleased to know you are going to help these people. I too have a burden for the people of Haiti and was invited to go hold a crusade there but never have been able to go. When I have raised money to send to a minister there to purchase food some people here in the USA made statements about the people there that I find unbecoming to a child of God. No matter what people say I believe its our respondsability to show the love of the Lord and feed the hungry. How can people that are starving to death sit and hear the gospel without our offering them food? Please keep up the work of the ministry.

Marjorie says 12.28.2010, 10:28 p.m.

I will be praying for all of you as you go out into the world to preach the gospel just as your Dad has done. May GOD bless you as you go INTO ALL THE WORLD.

Ed says 12.28.2010, 8:42 p.m.

I could not see the spiritual significance of your citing Sarah Palin's visit with you to Haiti.

Hugo says 12.28.2010, 8:18 p.m.

The very fact that this disaster going on, and getting worse by the day, and only a few miles from this USA, says a lot about the character of this very USA, the nation that claims to be under God and yet has become such an attrocious satanic and corrupt monsters who claims to have the right to shoot the whole world to pieces, in reality claiming such rights in the name of Almighty God. This nation now is a great hindrance to the spreading of the love God to all nations, and yet and sadly many Christians support such evildoing the world over. However, I am very encouraged that the Billy Graham mighty work for God marches on!

trudy says 12.28.2010, 7:38 p.m.

I love watching Haitian people when you see people that haven't eaten for days, they still have a smile on thier face. You know only the hope found through Jesus Christ has given them that smile. This is not their home, they know heaven is waiting. The love of God shines through their faces. Praying for you and your team that you will continue to be a blessing in Haiti. I love the Haitian people. In my mind I can still see them marching down the street praising the Lord after the earthquake. They have that hope beyond the grave.

Bev says 12.28.2010, 6:41 p.m.

Dear Franklin and Graham families, I have been to 2 of your crusades in SF, S.D. and you and your Dad are amazing Christians. I have also donated to your Great Ministry and I will be donating again soon. Please keep up your exceptional teaching and I pray for your crusades. Love to all.

Marilyn says 12.28.2010, 3:27 p.m.

A coworker of mine recently went to Haiti with Sam's Purse on the medical team. She works in special care nursery so was good at getting IV's in place. Her coworkers covered her shifts so that she could get off for this much needed trip. So it was a joint effort. Some stayed and worked so that she could go. This is the story of all missions. The support people are as important as those who go. God bless you Franklin as your heart is broken because that spurs you to do all that you can for these people who have suffered so much. We at home can pray and give to support the work.

Timothy says 12.28.2010, 3:25 p.m.

Debra says 12.28.2010, 1:00 p.m."I am very sad about Haiti and pray for them. I can't help but wonder "What happened to all that money that was raised and donated for that country?" Where is it,..."Recently read that the united nations requested 1.5 billion for Haiti, and that 75 has been received? What was done with the money? Why are we seeing this suffering still?

Deborah says 12.28.2010, 3:05 p.m.

I remember growing up listening to crusades that were televised. Even as a young person there was something different about him; and I mean that in a good way. My Dad made a comment once that stuck with me " He said there is something different about his eyes like an angelical concern for mankind." I know we should not idolize a human being but I do believe with all my heart that he is a man of God-and even though he is well-educated a small child could understand his sermons. That is just the way God would have it. When he gets to heaven I know God will Say " well done my good and faithful servant." He has truly put God first. I will always have admiration for him. I know there have been millions of people saved thru his ministry. He stays ever so humble and gives all the glory to God. I KNOW HE HAS FACED ADVERSITIES FROM THE ENEMY LIKE WE ALL HAVE. I thank God who has used him for his glory.

I can't help financially, but I'm praying diligently for the people of Haiti, for God to heal their land and prosper it!

Debra says 12.28.2010, 1:00 p.m.

I am very sad about Haiti and pray for them. I can't help but wonder "What happened to all that money that was raised and donated for that country?" Where is it, is anyone accountable for it? Is there a strategic plan by that country to rebuild, what are they doing for their people? Thank you for the work that you are doing there. God bless you.

Deborah says 12.28.2010, 11:57 a.m.

Praise God for people such as your self who are called by God to fulfill his purpose. America has been blessed and God has been merciful to us. We are fortunate to live in a country with the comforts that we often take for granted. I have read in revelations about the signs of the end days and I believe we are living in the last days so if we look at the shape the world is in we can be depressed but we know as christians that God is real and he is our comforter -all these things must come to pass. I know he loves us beyond our comprehension. May God continue to bless your ministry. I know God will protect you when you go into these different countries to proclaim his word, because he has called you to do his work. He will protect form the enemycomes after he want be able to succeed -because "greater is he that is in me then he that is in the world.

doris says 12.28.2010, 11:26 a.m.

I will continue to pray and support these unfortunate Haiti residents. Will pray for you also for your safety and health. Will be donating to this ministry in January. Love to all and praying for your dad.

Margie says 12.28.2010, 10:35 a.m.

Hi, its me, Margie...God sometime ago told me to pray for leaders of the gospel and their families. And I'm obedient about that. Kenneth Hagin (The Daddy) many years ago said he had done what God told him to do and everything went wrong. He asked God why?. I've been obedient. Did what you told me to. God said, yes but you weren't willing. WOW. I've never forgotten that. He says be WILLING and obedient. He gave me the heart to have compassion for preachers and their families. Thats a tough calling, I'm sure. Thanks, bye bye. Margie

Patricia says 12.28.2010, 10:31 a.m.

The FIRST "education" program for nations like Hati is, ALONG WITH the message of our Lord and Savior, a TEACHING of how to go about stopping the insane production of MORE HATIANS!As a people, they MUST understand to purposely NOT bring any more children into their world of "nothing to offer these children"! The best "program" possible would be their decisions to line up for sterilization! Weighed against the selfish happiness of another baby, is the happiness of now refusing to bringing any further misery to this earth! THAT`S where the "education" must START! Instead of the futile life, help them know th pride, relief and comfort of seriously STOPPING the source of misery! Teach them how to step out of their circle of helplessness!

Andrea says 12.28.2010, 10:19 a.m.

I will pray for you and your staff as you go out into our world as witnesses for our Lord and Saviour, Christ Jesus. Thank you for your letter, Mr. Graham.
