How to Pray for America on July 4

July 2, 2012 - As Americans celebrate July 4 and remember those who fought and died for our freedom, we need to take time to pray for our soldiers.

How to Pray for America on July 4

We should also pray for our national leaders. Regardless of whether we agree with our country’s policies, we have a biblical mandate to do this.

The Apostle Paul—who knew what it was like to lose his freedom—wrote to Timothy, “I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone—for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior” (1 Timothy 2:1-3, NIV).

As you pray, ask that your congressional representatives, judges, governors and all others in positions of authority will seek God’s wisdom and guidance.

Gen. George Washington issued this decree on March 6, 1776, calling for a day of fasting and prayer as our country began its long and bloody battle for independence:

“Set apart … as a day of fasting, prayer and humiliation, to implore the Lord and Giver of all victory to pardon our manifold sins and wickedness, and that it would please Him to bless the Continental Arms with His divine favor and protection—all officers and soldiers are strictly enjoined to pay all due reverence and attention on that day to the sacred duties due to the Lord of hosts for His mercies already received and for those blessings which our holiness and uprightness of life can alone encourage us to hope through His mercy to obtain.”

The freedoms we now enjoy pale in comparison to the freedom we have as Christians, purchased by Christ’s death on the cross. “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death” (Romans 8:1-2, NIV).

Pray with us that God will continue to use BGEA mightily in introducing others to the glorious liberty of Christ.

Let us remember that Ronald Reagan said that "Government isn't the answer -- government is the problem"... it is at the grass roots that the hope healing and restoration will come. GOD hasn't given up on America ... He made us He will not abandon us if we don't abandon Him....

Wilson says 7.13.2010, 9:27 p.m.

Jim, the reason we worship on Sunday is because that's the day the Lord rose from the grave, (Matt 28:1) and that's the day the Apostles gathered together, (Acts 20:7, 1 Cor 16:2). Jesus himself declared that He came to fulfill the law, (Matt 5:17) and He did many, so called "unlawful" deeds on the Sabbath. He also declared that "...the Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath" (Mark 2:27). So we need not get bogged down in legalism, but simply turn our hearts back to God.

I noticed some quoted ll Chronicles 7:14 but what does it mean? It says 'if my people'... GOD'S people would turn from their wicked ways and seek GOD. So America's future is in the hands of the Christian who does things GODS way. Abel did GOD'S way and was blessed; Cain did as he wanted and was not blessed. For America to succeed, Christians must be Abels. Read Matthew 10:26-28, Luke 12:4,5 Mark 13:13. Matthew 10:22, Matthew 6:24. CHRISTIANITY GOD'S WAY OR NO WAY. MATTHEW 7:13,14,21-23. LIVE TO LIVE AGAIN. Romans 12:1-3 to avoid II Corinthians 11:14.

We need to pray more now than ever!

Elizabeth says 7.5.2010, 12:52 a.m.

I've had so many friends and family ask "why do you pray for God's intercession upon leaders who have turned against Him"? It is as Rev. Graham has stated here, the Lord expects each of us to pray not only for the righteous, but for the unrighteous. And so I will continue doing exactly as He demands, expects, desires and requests of me.Only through prayer for intercession will our country move back to the Lord, and will we be blessed with Christian leadership.

Thank you for your continual guidance in how to pray for our country and it's leaders during this particular time in this nation's history. How thankful we are for this ministry.

Julia Cruz says 7.3.2010, 11:25 p.m.

It's very important to follow God commandments and pray. If America will seek the Face of The Lord and be humble before him, God will heal our land. Indeed the bible says pray for every man, doesn't say pray only for Christians, but for the ones that doesn't know God that they came to the true knowledge and came to repentance. This people need guidance and wisdom from above.

II Chronicles 7:14 says 7.3.2010, 11:11 p.m.

As someone in the ministry recently challenged me to do...when ever you see that it is 7:14am or pm on the clock, pray for our country

Larry says 7.3.2010, 3:36 p.m.

Thanks be to our founding national leaders that had reverence to, and knowledge of, a one true GOD that is in control of all things and provides for all those who seek him. If we pray for our current national leaders and vote for those that seek GOD's plan for our nation, amazing positive results are expected!

ANTHONY says 7.3.2010, 3:13 p.m.

Carol says 7.3.2010, 1:29 p.m.

Pray for the salvation of our leaders, that they would be convicted of their sins-confess and repent of them. Pray for God's hedge of protection around our leaders, hedging out evil influences and hedging them into a place where God's precious Holy Spirit can get their attention. Pray for deception to fall from their eyes and that they would see TRUTH and embrace it and govern by it. Pray their sins will be exposed and good will come out of it. Pray blessings on the good they do, but that the evil they do would die and blow away. Pray that God would remove those who are unrighteous and unrepentant from their place of authority. Pray that God would raise up godly righteous individuals to take their places. Confess the sins of our nation to God and ask for Him to send a spiritual awakening to America.

Mike says 7.3.2010, 08:07 a.m.

If this country does not fall on her knees and get back to moral values, it is damn. We as a nation need to ask God for forgiveness of our sins. I pray for our country that they will see the light. God forgive us.

Bob says 7.3.2010, 06:50 a.m.

My brothers in Christ, we can turn the tide if we as a nation would all just get on our knees together and pray as a nation, never stop praying , our Lord requires it!

I completely agree with Russell's comment. Everyone in America should pray daily for our country and for the freedom we have to still be available for many generations to come! Thank You to ALL OF THE SOLDIERS FIGHTING FOR US AND GOD BLESS YOU ALL, HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY, GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!

So often we forget about the blessing we have that were provided by Christ that we take for granted. I feel so blessed that he even wanted me, I'm very thankful for my freedom and all that he has provided. Most of all for the men and women that fight for our freedom that God would put a hedge of protection around them and bless them.

Catherine says 7.2.2010, 7:47 p.m.

God will hear our prays and heal our land....

teresa says 7.2.2010, 7:36 p.m.

May we all the body of Christ remember what our Lord did for us so that we have the freedom of sin and to enjoy that day when we can spend eternity with Him and until that day let us all repent daily and ask for God's grace and mercy on us each day and to forgive us of our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.as He has forgiven us and to love one another as He has loved us.

Jim says 7.2.2010, 7:33 p.m.

I believe God would continue to bless our societies and smite some of the evil happening, if we truly worshipped Him. The vast majority of big churches, and organizations such a BGEA sin every week by not following God's fourth commandment..."Remember the Sabbath day to keep it Holy"...they use lots of excuses to not do it. But God made the 7th day Sabbath day Holy at Creation Genesis 2. No other day was made Holy, so what do churches do? Keep the day of the sun...the 1st day of the week, which is pagan in nature...and is NOT from God, but from Satan. So why would we expect God to bless the nations that do not keep His Holy day??

Robert says 7.2.2010, 6:04 p.m.

Just a few words in poetic form, Franklin, to pass along to you. I've corresponded with you and your father in the past, and sent you a poem thanking God for your ministry. This one is specifically written to encourage the saints to recognize, and pray for, those who lead our country.Righteous America, Sit Up And Listen! Righteous America, sit up and listen! The hour of your demise is threatening. Evil is on the increase to destroy you, But it shall not prevail.Al Quaida, Hamas, and all other terrorists, Like a clever army bent on destruction,Are assailing your very mooringsThe moorings of your faith in God. Is it worth all the sacrifice of lives? Is it worth all the disfavor against you?Is it worth all the measures you've enactedTo see freedom reign on earth?Stand firm in this day of attack.Firmly trust in God who protects you.Your leadership must not waverNo matter how fierce the battle.Victory is ahead, be assured. It shall not be easily won, But won it shall be in the end. Then you'll know you are right!

Cindy says 7.2.2010, 5:38 p.m.

"..if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and HEAL their land." 2 Chronicles 7:14 God Bless this ministry and may God bless our troops!

Russell says 7.2.2010, 2:55 p.m.

All of us currently residing in America and all citizens need to keep our wonderful gifts this country provides in consistent prayer, so that our children and their children can enjoy these same freedoms.
