My Answer

How do you know when God is trying to tell you something? I walked away from a bad car wreck a few weeks ago with only a few scratches, and I couldn't help but wonder why God spared my life. I could have been killed just as easily. — D.C.

God was merciful to you, and He certainly wants to use it to change you in some way. Have you asked Him to show you what He is trying to tell you through this accident?

I can only guess, of course, at some possible reasons why He spared you. One reason might be to remind you of the brevity of life, and of your own need of Christ. Perhaps you haven't paid much attention to God so far in life; Christ means little to you, and you have gone through life acting almost as if God didn't exist. Or perhaps you planned to turn to God eventually—but in the meantime you have wanted to live for yourself.

But life is short, and someday your life will be over and you will enter eternity. Without Christ in your heart, however, you won't be ready for that day. The Bible warns, "Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved" (Acts 4:12). But God loves you, and the most important decision you will ever make is to turn your life over to Christ.

God may also telling you through this accident to treat every day as a gift from His hands—not one to be used selfishly, but to be used for His glory. God has a plan for your life; have you asked Him to show it to you? You will either go through life living for yourself or living for Christ. Commit yourself today to live for Christ and to seek His will for your life.

To Mona's comment: I don't think many of us "know" what our life's purpose is - we just walk daily with Him... in FAITH. Ask the Lord to walk with you and guide you daily. He will, in His own good time, reveal "guideposts" along the way- whether thru scripture ("Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path"- Psalm 119:105), or His quiet voice within you ("And when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left, your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, 'This is the way, walk in it'"- Isaiah 30:21). Walk with the Lord daily, trust Him to lead your path- ("Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight"- Proverbs 3:5-6). That's what faith is- not knowing- but walking and trusting in Him! - ("We live by FAITH, not by sight."- 2Cor.5:7).

Mona, sometimes the hardest part is waiting. Maybe God is answering but in a quiet way. Pray for him to show you his purpose. You will receive an answer, but it may come in a form you do not expect. God may use the tiniest avenue to answer you.

This is a response to Mona's comment above. I hope she sees it! Dear Mona, First of all, DON'T GIVE UP! You are right where you are supposed to be. Believe Proverbs 3:5-6. If you are trusting the Lord and acknowledging Him, then HE WILL direct your paths! Keep seeking God by reading your Bible as much as you can and talking to God all the time. Ask Him to speak to you. I can attest that if you ask and seek Him and saturate your mind in His Word, He WILL speak to you. The hymn "This is My Father's World" says "He speaks to me everywhere." If you keep praying and meditating on His Word (diligently seeking Him), He will reward you. (See Hebrews 11:6). May God richly bless you. I will be praying that you will hear His voice clearly and know His presence with you.

I have been saved for at least 25 years. I fell away from the Lord, however I have recommitted my life to him. I am in a situation where I need to redirect my life life but I am very uncertain as to HOW I supposed to do this. I have asked the Lord to guide me in this matter. I have not herd from the Lord....why is it? I wish God would speak to me. I would like to know his purpose for me. How do I get this answer?
