My Answer

I notice that in almost every column you urge people to give their lives to Jesus today, or not let another day pass without Him. Well, I intend to give my life to Jesus some day, but not until I've had a chance to have some fun. You'll probably say I'm gambling with my soul, but all of life is a gamble, isn't it? — F.J.

You're right; I will tell you that you are gambling with your soul. And the reason is because you are—and if you lose, there will be no second chance. Why gamble with your eternal destiny?

After all, you don't know what the future holds. Yes, you may have many years left on this earth—but you may not. Turn the pages of this newspaper to today's obituary columns; in all likelihood, not everyone listed in it was old when they died. How many of them woke up that morning and knew it would be their last day on earth? How many of them were like the man in Jesus' parable who thought he'd live for many years, "But God said to him, 'You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you'" (Luke 12:20)? This could happen to you.

But you run another risk in delaying your decision for Christ. It is this: The older we get, the harder it becomes for us to hear God's voice. Our hearts grow cold and callous, and we no longer want to turn to Him. You say you want to turn to Christ someday—but will you when that day comes? I doubt it.

Don't be deceived by the false promises of this life. Only Christ can fill your life with lasting joy, and only He can give you meaning and purpose. Don't delay giving your life to Him!
