My Answer

Do you think we can communicate with those who've died and entered the spirit realm? I lost my husband last year, and I long to hear his voice again. I thought I might try to see a psychic who could put me in touch with him. Why shouldn't I try this? — Mrs. K.J.

I understand your heartache (and so does God), but I urge you not to pursue this path. The Bible warns us against having anything to do with someone "who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead" (Deuteronomy 18:11).

Why is this? The main reason is because you could become involved with occult spiritual forces that are not from God but actually from Satan and opposed to God. From time to time, I receive letters from people who've gone down this road, only to find themselves spiritually oppressed by occult powers. In some instances, they even turn against God and accuse Him of being the source of all their problems. They've forgotten the Bible's warning that Satan "leads the whole world astray" (Revelation 12:9).

Instead, I urge you to turn to the living God, who alone can bring true comfort and hope to your heart. God loves you; He loves you so much that He sent His only Son into the world to die for your sins. And someday all those who put their faith and trust in Him will enter His presence forever.

Jesus said, "Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted" (Matthew 5:4). His promise is true—and you can know His comfort today, by asking Him to come into your life. Don't go down a false path, but open your heart to Jesus Christ today.
