I wish you'd warn people about drugs more, because they can really mess you up. I got hooked on methadone the first time I ever tried it, and I can't believe how it took over my brain. Now I'm in jail because I started selling it. Please pray for me. I didn't mean to end up this way. — C.S.
My heart goes out to you—and my prayers also, because I know you've been traveling down a very rocky road. I pray that with God's help you will find another road—His road. Only it offers you peace, and only it leads to heaven.
Almost no one who starts using drugs believes they will end up ruining their lives. Either they think that they will be the exception, or else they simply refuse to think about it. But illicit drugs are one of the greatest evils of our time, and I support every effort to block them and educate people about their devastating effects. Experts I have talked to tell me that one of the worst things about methadone is how quickly it becomes addictive and beyond control.
The most important thing I can tell you, however, is this: God still loves you, and He wants to help you. Someday you will get out of prison—but what then? Don't let your old friends tempt or control you; avoid them like you would a deadly virus. The Bible says, "Do not be misled: 'Bad company corrupts good character'" (1 Corinthians 15:33).
Instead, give your life to Jesus Christ and let Him be your constant companion. Not only will He help you resist temptation, but He also will give you a new purpose in life. Ask Him to come into your heart today—and He will.
