When I want to connect with God, I stop and meditate and look within myself for the divine. I don't believe God is out there somewhere; I believe He is inside each of us, and we just need to shut our minds to everything else and focus on our inner being to find God. Why aren't you open to this? — R.W.
I don't doubt your sincerity, but my prayer is that you will do exactly what you have urged me to do: be open to exploring a new path—a path that will truly lead you to God.
You see, God is too great and too vast to be limited to our own spirits or souls. God is the Creator of the whole universe, and He is so great that He brought it into existence from nothing. He also is your Creator. You aren't here by chance—He put you here. And He put you here so you could know Him and serve Him.
When you confine God to your own inner thoughts, however, you make Him into something far smaller than He actually is. The Bible says, "Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom" (Psalm 145:3). Once you understand how great God is, you will never be content to limit Him to your own soul. Instead, you will want to worship Him and thank Him for His goodness and love to you.
The most important thing I can tell you about God, however, is this: He loves you, and He wants you to know Him. He loves you so much that He sent His Son into the world to erase the barrier that separates us from God—the barrier of sin. Don't be deceived, but by a simple act of faith turn to Christ and commit your life to Him. Then you will truly know God—and one day you will go to be with Him through all eternity.
