My Answer

I've heard some people say that it's never too late to turn to God and we can turn to Him at any time. But I've heard others say that this isn't true, because if we keep delaying we'll reach the point of no return, and it'll be too late to turn to God. Who is right? — N.S.

Although it may seem like a contradiction, the Bible tells us that both are actually true if we understand them properly. Let me explain.

On one hand, the Bible makes it clear that God loves us with an everlasting love, and He stands ready to forgive anyone who sincerely turns to Christ in repentance and faith. The Bible says, "He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance" (2 Peter 3:9). One of the two criminals who was crucified with Jesus turned to Him in faith, and although he was only hours from death, it wasn't too late for him to be saved (see Luke 23:40-43). Nor is it for you.

But the Bible also warns that when we repeatedly turn away from God, we can reach a point of no return. The reason isn't because God won't forgive us, but because our hearts have grown so cold and hardened because of sin. God still calls us but we are too insensitive to hear His voice. The other criminal who was crucified with Jesus scorned Him to the end—a sober warning against a heart that has become calloused (see Luke 23:39).

Don't delay coming to Christ. Satan whispers "some other time"—but the Bible says, "Now is the time of God's favor, now is the day of salvation" (2 Corinthians 6:2). Ask Christ to come into your life today—and He will.
