My Answer

My family is urging me to move into a retirement center. I've had some medical problems and I know they think it's best for me, but I can't stand the thought of leaving my home of 58 years. Please pray I make the right decision. — Mrs. V.J.

Life grows harder as we get older, and sometimes we have to make decisions we don't want to make. But if God has led us, they are for the best, even if we don't see it at the time.

Has the time come for you to move into a retirement center? Only you and your family can make that decision, with God's help. But as you make it, I hope you'll keep two things in mind. First, many retirement centers today are excellent, providing not only superior care but also a cheerful and friendly environment. Second, you and your family may want to explore some other options, such as part-time care in your own home.

Whatever your decision, I pray that these will be some of the best years of your life. God has a special concern for those who are older, and He wants you to grow closer to Him during these days. God loves you, and He will never abandon you. The Bible says, "Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you" (Isaiah 46:4). This is God's promise to you. In addition, may this be a time when you turn your eyes toward heaven. As we grow older, we can become worried about our health and other things—but ahead of us is heaven if we know Christ. The Bible says, "Set your hearts on things above, where Christ is" (Colossians 3:1).
