My Answer

I know I'm going to hell when I die because I've blasphemed the Holy Spirit. My aunt says God will forgive me but I don't believe it. But I promised her I'd write you to see what you'd say. I don't want to go to hell but I know I will. — G.M.

Do you honestly think God wants you to spend eternity apart from Him in the place the Bible calls hell? No, He doesn't. Instead, He wants you to be with Him in heaven because He loves you. The Bible says, "He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance"(2 Peter 3:9).

Those words were written by the Apostle Peter—and if anyone was guilty of denying Christ, it was Peter. Do you remember? Jesus had warned Peter that he would deny Him, but Peter strongly disagreed. Then Jesus was arrested, and when someone asked Peter if he also was a follower of Jesus, "He began to call down curses on himself, and he swore to them, 'I don't know this man'" (Mark 14:71). But Peter repented, and God forgave him—completely and totally. And He will forgive you.

Yes, Jesus said only one sin couldn't be forgiven, and that was "blasphemy against the Spirit" (Matthew 12:31). But what does it mean to blaspheme the Spirit? I have studied Jesus' words very carefully, and it simply means this: To deny the Holy Spirit's witness to Jesus.

In other words, the only sin God can't forgive is the sin of rejecting Christ. But why reject Him any longer? God's promise is for you: "Whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life" (John 3:18). Commit your life to Him today.

I think I did the unpardonable sin. :( Cause one night I was going to be then I saw a screen with my eyes close saying "Curse God and die". Then after that He showed me all of hell and a little bit of heaven. And now I keep having bad dreams of it.

The Pharisee's blasphemed the Holy spirit by saying the Holy Spirit was the work of Beelzebub, and trying to convince others of that. Now my study has reveled the same as Dr. Grahams if you Die before accepting Jesus then you wont be forgiven.

Bonnie says 4.1.2013, 10:57 p.m.

Since you are feeling remorseful you are more than likely not going to hell and are being shown mercy from God by giving you the chance to repent. People who have committed the sin of blasphemy have hardened their hearts toward God.

James says 3.30.2013, 5:00 p.m.

Jesus was very clear on blasphemy. In the scripture He said if we cannot forgive neither can our father forgive us. The power of the Holy Ghost is forgiveness and remission, when we refuse to forgive we deny that "Christ in you" can forgive sin.

What did Paul say:The good that I try to do, I do not and the bad that I try not to do, I do. Sometimes we have good intentions and people take it wrong, ends up hurt feelings for both. Psalm 23: forgive trespasses and ask for forgiveness helps.

TheHolyWayisTheOnlyWay says 3.12.2013, 11:50 a.m.

The Holy Ghost is A Person. He has feelings just as we do. Just as we have a body. He has a body. And He comes to live in us when salvation takes place in our lives the only way we can blaspheme Him is to speak evil against the Holy Ghost.

I read the scripture about blasphemy and felt uncomfortable about seeing the word Holy Spirit because I would start thinking thoughts about blasphemy. I can't control what I was thinking and I know that the Holy Spirit is God's Spirit. Have I ?

Believe and receive. The Bible says we are saved by GRACE. If we sin it is because we are not fully aware of the WORD. Do not let FEAR come into your life!! That is the wok of the devil.

Mike says 5.29.2012, 3:37 p.m.

Little late to the party but here goes. Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit could only be committed when Jesus Christ was physically on this earth and by saying that the Spirit in Him was an evil spirit, thereby blaspheming the work of the Holy Spirit.

David says 4.21.2012, 9:20 p.m.

I hope you are right because I a couple of years ago yelled some curses at the Holy Spirit and I been scared ever since. This to me is blasphemy. But maybe I'm wrong. Pray for me and give me hope. Thank you for the important information.God Bless

Justin says 4.20.2012, 2:37 p.m.

By the definition of "blaspheme" we're all going to Hell. Let's not interpret things how we want to, but read it for what it is. "He that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness." - Mark 3:29

T says 4.14.2012, 9:54 p.m.

I'm so glad that you answered this question. I've been terribly afraid that I had committed the unpardonable sin, but this message gives me hope. Thanks.

That has helped me so much Ive been having panic attacks over this. thank you, feeling that I cant go back to church but now I know I can and more importantly still have a relationship with Jesus again thank you

Mike says 12.16.2011, 10:56 p.m.

I agree w BGEA that it means to deny the Holy Spirit's witness to Jesus. Consider John 6:37-40 and 3:14-15. Jesus promises he will not drive u away if u come to him and eternal life for believing in him. These are his promise to us.

Deborah, John is right; if you repent and turn away from the sin you will be forgiven. But remember, it's a heart thing, our Lord knows what's in our heart and if we are being real.

Clayton says 3.7.2011, 5:08 p.m.

In Mark 3:30 soon after he says "...whoever blasphemies against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven..." The writer says, "He said this because they were saying, 'He has an impure Spirit'. Why would he mention that part If blasphemy against the Holy Spirit was before salvation, like what this above passage from BGEA is saying? It makes it seem that blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is attributing the Holy Spirit's works to the devil, or something like that?

The other day I came under attack. There was something that wasn't going to let me go. I was up until three in the morning screaming no, praying, and reading my bible. I also had a really bad cold and could do nothing more than lie there in bed. I prayed that I would be forgiven, but I still have that sin feeling in my heart. I've been praying ever since that God would help me, save me, redeem me, I've been doing that every 10 minutes. I know that that means I've lost faith that God forgave me the first time. I've lost my joy, my peace, and I've been anxious. But every time I've opened my bible in prayer its follown on one of the scriptures above or where I wrote the Hebrew name of Jesus in my bible. My pastor once said yes God forgives and forgets but I believe when we sin, God has to get to a place where he trusts us with the revival we had before. Read your bible, pray, and don't lose site of God.

Dave says 12.1.2010, 2:19 p.m.

I was taught that to blaspheme the Spirit you have to know who He is, a part of the triune God but also a separate being sent by God to live in us. Then, knowing who He is (separate from Jesus and God) to blaspheme the Spirit would be unforgivable would it not as in Matt 12:31 God would have to be true to His word.

Eric says 11.15.2010, 7:11 p.m.

Dear Terry, Personally, in my life I have had the same type of feelings and frame of thought: ' What if I blapheme against the Holy Spirit?' Or, 'What if I break one of the Ten Commandments, will God still love me?' The answer is emphatically, yes! Jesus was just saying that anyone who does not believe in Him is " blaspheming against the Holy Spirit" If you are having trouble accepting this read John 3:16-17. And sometimes (to answer your question) God does say no to what we are praying about (I've had it happen, too!) because it might not be in perfect will with His. But the Lord says this, " For I know the plans I have for you... plans not to harm you, but to give you hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11).

John says 11.14.2010, 09:10 a.m.

To Deborah, Yes all you have to do is repent. But also know the true meaning of repent. Which means to turn away from and not to do again.God Bless

Ryan says 10.26.2010, 4:09 p.m.

Dear Terry, Simply ask the Holy Spirit to partner with you for the power to overcome the habits you feel the Father wants you to be released of. The Holy Spirit is the same source Jesus worked in cooperation and was led by this same Spirit the Holy Spirit which is one with your spirit. Pray you are filled with the spirit.

L says 10.2.2010, 09:24 a.m.

see above! "the only sin God can't forgive is the sin of rejecting Christ"people who are Christians still mess up! - turning to Christ doesnt make us perfect, it just starts the process of God working in our lives!

Terry says 9.29.2010, 07:42 a.m.

I am a sinner. As much as I try not to sin, I still do so, by word and by thought. I have asked the Lord for forgiveness, but I continue to commit the same sins over and over again. I ask the Lord to please take my sinful ways away, but he hasn't done so yet. Why and what more can I do or pray for to stop these sins?

Deborah says 9.23.2010, 07:21 a.m.

What if you have been baptised with the Holy Spirit and then sinned by getting drunk. Then repented?
