My Answer

Why do you say that only God can change a person's heart? I'm a freshman in college studying psychology, and it seems to me that psychologists can do a lot of good to help people—maybe as much as religion does. — L.T.

Yes, psychologists and psychiatrists can help us understand ourselves, and give us insight into the reasons we do the things we do. Some people have been deeply scarred by their past, for example, and a gifted and spiritually-sensitive counselor can be very helpful to them.

But what is our basic problem? The Bible says we each have a basic, hard-core spiritual problem that we can never solve on our own—and that problem is sin. Don't think of sin as simply doing things that are wrong; sin in the Bible is like a crippling virus, or a toxic chemical in a river. It manifests itself in selfishness and rebellion against God, and no matter how hard we try, we still put ourselves first.

This is one reason why we need God, for only He can give us a new heart, and replace our self-centeredness with His love. God's promise is true: "I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone" (Ezekiel 36:26).

This has been the experience of millions of Christians throughout the ages—and it can be your experience as well. Don't blindly go the way of the crowd, but by faith turn to Christ and ask Him to take over your life. He will—and your life will never be the same.

who do you think gives the psychologists the knowledge to help people......???? God of course. Seek God FIRST and then pray to guide you to a helper whom teaches his word and helps you grow. ;)

I struggle with the same thing asking God to change my heart so did King David when he asked God in Psalm 51:10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. Psalm 51:17 a broken and contrite heart Oh God you will not despise. 1 John 1:19 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. It takes time for God to restore your our hearts as we yield and confess our sins to him daily, also most of us do not like to suffer as we present our bodies as a living sacrifice unto God. Most cleansing comes through our suffering but so does our Joy from the Lord. Never give up God He is already working in your life be patient and Wait on him. There are thousandths of witnesses, lives changed by the word of God. Keep your faith alive, be patient, wait on the Lord, forsake anger and bitterness. The Lord is already working on you and He loves you. Philippians 1:6 For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus. ...I will continue to hold on to His promises and Worship him forsaking anger and bitterness, praying daily, getting to know him, understanding He gave his life for me and He will for sure fulfill his promises. The Lord Bless you and give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:4 Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart. Love in Christ. Jose

I keep asking God into my life to help me love him and love others and get out of sin and fear over and over again, I even shout at him, PLEASE COME INTO MY HEART AND CHANGE ME, PLEASE... I'm so worn out of religion and anger and confusion and frustration and I know only God can change me, so why isn't he helping me?
