A Special Place

September 1, 2002 - It doesn’t have to be fancy. But we do need to have a special place to study the Bible, a place that is separated from cooking or letter writing or paying bills. For years my special place was an old wooden table between a chest of drawers and a tall desk.

Then I found a new place for Bible study—a big, old rolltop desk in the bedroom. On my desk I have a number of good translations of the Bible for reference, a Bible dictionary, a Bible concordance and several devotional books. And nearby I also keep notebooks and a mug filled with pens.

It seems that if we have to clear off a spot for Bible study during a crowded day, we are likely to put off studying the Bible. But if we have a place where our Bible is always open and handy, whenever there is a lull in the storms of life, we can grab a cup of coffee and sit down for a time of pure refreshment and companionship.

Years ago, when I was in school, I used a notebook to take notes when the professor was lecturing. But how much more important it is for us to take notes when God is teaching us.
